Siamese Cuisine

Although the neighborhood might suggest otherwise, it was definitely an extremely chic restaurant. The owner was a doctor from Rotterdam, who thought this was a nice activity for his Thai partner. I met this man in Bangkok and he was a connoisseur of antiques. With his help I bought my first antique and original Buddha statue.

The food in this restaurant was delicious, but I must confess that I had never seen, let alone tasted the dishes in Thailand. Moreover, here you got the right cutlery in the right place and the service was perfect.

This restaurant came to mind when the dining club decided to accommodate members in North Pattaya by visiting a business on Naklua Road.

Siamese Cuisine is easy to find. From the roundabout with the dolphin statue onto Naklua Road and quickly see it on the right, opposite Woodland Resort.

You can sit outside or inside. Outside the traffic is not too bad. Everything looks neatly cared for. Cutlery in the right places. Glasses where they belong. And the reception is extremely friendly. As a starter, we choose fried chicken legs on the advice of one of us, who has been here before. Crispy and not a hint of fat. Plus the right sauce.

As a main course I choose a Paneng Kai or a curry soup with pieces of chicken and potato. A well-known dish, so I can easily appreciate it. Delightful. I only know of one restaurant where this dish is equally tasty, to the reassurance of friends I regularly eat with at this other restaurant. Everyone is completely satisfied with what is offered.

When Thailand has a Thai haute cuisine, then Siamese Cuisine definitely qualifies. And now the strange. After this praise you expect it to be priceless here, but that the prices are just reasonable. Recommended.

It's not really important, but I think Klaas Kompaan on the Raamgracht in Amsterdam was the first Thai restaurant, Honor where honor is due. I first visited Klaas Kompaan in 1978 and it had already existed for several years. Shortly afterwards, Klaas Kompaan's chef started her own Thai restaurant Bangkok in Reguliersdwarsstraat.

I once read a review on Lanna Thai that people wondered if the restaurant's paintings of bare-breasted Thai beauties had anything to do with its location in the red light district. Not really, it's about the mythical Kinnaree Women who play a role in Thai culture. They are half woman, half bird. You can see statues of it especially in the Royal Palace in Bangkok and also along the access road of the new airport in Bangkok and at many other locations in the country.

If I remember correctly, Tjauw was later the Thai partner mentioned here and was in charge of daily management in Lanna Thai. That was a flamboyant personality in the Thai Amsterdam circuit for a long time. .

If I come back to Pattaya we will definitely eat there we know where it is. Can we eat delicious coffee with a pastry right at Woodlands resort café Paris.
