Recently I read a report from our ambassador, Karel Hartogh, about his visit to the north of Thailand. During that visit he officially opened a new Dutch company in Lamphun with the name Siam Ventilation Co. Ltd, part of the Plymovent Group. I find entrepreneurship in Thailand interesting, so I went looking for more information about this company.

The Plymovent Group

According to the website, Plymovent is a leading global supplier of products, systems and services for the extraction and filtration of polluted indoor air. They offer high-quality solutions that remove welding and cutting fumes, grinding dust and oil mist in the metal processing industry. In addition, solutions are offered that capture and remove exhaust gases from vehicles. Plymovent products make an important contribution to a cleaner, safer and healthier workplace all over the world.

Alkmaar

To my pleasant surprise, Plymovent turned out to have started as a small company in Alkmaar. Products made of sheet metal were developed under the name Euromate, with which air purifiers that were easy to install were produced using the electrostatic filter principle.

I knew that company because in the XNUMXs, when I was in charge of a machine factory in Noord-Scharwoude, we regularly met at management level to exchange information with other metal processing companies in the region about all sorts of general matters, such as personnel policy, investments, permits and local legislation, etc.

Development

I lost track of the company after that and read with all admiration that the company has developed into a leading supplier in their field. Plymovent has production locations in Alkmaar, Cranbury NJ (USA) and now Lamphun, Thailand. There are sales offices in Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States and the rest of the world is covered by a specialist network of more than 85 authorized distributors.

Siam Ventilation Co. Ltd. Lamphun

Plymovent products are now being manufactured in a new building in Lamphun – just south of Chiang Mai. This location was chosen because of the favorable business climate for foreign/Dutch companies, the availability of skilled personnel, the pleasant environment to work in and friendly people to work with. This is how Anita Adams, Plymovent's marketing manager, informed me when asked.

Their website contains the following press release: “We are extremely proud of our two large factory halls with a total area of 8750 m2. With this, Plymovent is taking the next strategic step to further improve its activities by taking production in-house and streamlining the supply chain. This also underlines our aim to continue to grow in Asia.”

About 85 people now work in the company, which is led by Dutch people. Specialists from the Netherlands regularly come over to further expand the expertise. Now there is only manufacturing, but the intention is to also set up our own Plymovent sales organization in Lamphun in order to better cover the Asian market from Thailand.

Whenever we are in CM we make a short trip to Lamphun to visit the temples. A few years ago we met a lady who sells homemade stuff in one of those temples, for that temple. The problem now is that we keep forgetting what that temple is called and where it is exactly. It is always by chance that we find them. Recently we went back to Lamphun and talked to several people, but we couldn't find the lady. I have a picture on fb from a few years ago. If anyone from Lamphun wants to contact us, I will show the photo. Thanks in advance, Hubert

The name of that temple , because Lamphun also has more than one .
I think it is the well-known Wat Phra That Hariphuncha temple.
Around this temple are many small shops that sell self-made things and also locally made products such as shirts made of silk.
On the main road on the east side of this temple there is also a covered bridge that is sufficient
shops and items related to the OTOP villages in the immediate vicinity.
I myself live near Lamphun ( pm 10 km ) in the vicinity of the city of Pasang , and I regularly visit it once or twice a week .
The editors of this web blog know my e - mail address .

What strikes me is that in Lamphun, I never hear anything about an even larger Dutch company that has been active there for many, many years.
The name is Driessen aerospace , originally from Wieringerwerf in North Holland .
This company in Lamphun makes, among other things, the trolleys that you see when you fly when the flight attendant serves you the meal and/or drinks.
Many major household names in the aviation industry use trolleys from this company.

Of course I know Driessen, Jan. There are dozens of other Dutch companies in Thailand that we have not featured on Thailandblog. They are very welcome to post a short story about their company on this blog, we have asked for it once, but the enthusiasm is not very great.

We also have no illusions that it is so important for many larger companies to be mentioned, but it is of course nice for the blog readers.

By the way, Driessen is not really Dutch anymore, since it was taken over in 2008 by the French Zodiac Aerospace Group. I don't know if it is still led by Dutch people.

He's not talking about that temple on the left when you come from CM with a tour, Wat Phra That. It is a temple with a peini in front. That lady sits with her things inside the temple and sells them for the benefit of that temple, located somewhere in the city center. We thought we had found that temple across the canal, but after checking with the local monks, no one knew her, although she has been there for several years. I have a photo on fb but can't retrieve it.
