Koh larn

– Reposted message –

Away from Pattaya life. Sometimes it is nice to be in a different environment, even if it is only for a few days. Koh Larn is a wonderful trip for us.

What comes from far away is tasty we say, but Koh Larn is close by but oh so 'Amazing!' When I tell them that Koh Larn is one of our favorite destinations, everyone wants to know why. I will try to explain in this article.

Beaches on Ko Larn

When you go to it during the day beach from Koh Larn it can be busy. Especially in peak times when all boats moor on the beaches of Koh Larn, but that is also a pleasant crowd. And you can choose a busy or quiet beach. We usually choose our "own" beach. We also visited all the other beaches. Each beach really has its (or is it her) own charm and identity. It really is a matter of “what do you like?”. The dazzling white beaches are stunning in contrast to the crystal clear water.

If you go for a few days, but also if you only go for a day and want to see a lot, I recommend bringing your own motorbike. You can take a taxi there, but the price has become quite high. You can go anywhere with your own motorbike. You have to go to the boat a little earlier, because you usually have to go with the boat where the cargo also goes. The costs of the crossing for the motorbike are not too bad. You can also go to the island with a fast speedboat. The normal Ferry boat goes from the Bali pier located on a square, the end of Walking Street. The boats depart regularly, almost every hour when it is busy. But beware, they do have a departure schedule. The crossing takes about half an hour. The departure times:

  • Pattaya: 07:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:30, 17:00 and 18:00
  • Return from the island: 06:30, 07:30, 09:30, 12:00, 14:00, 17:00 and 18:00

Walk around

Once you arrive on the island, it's fun to drive yourself. Nice roads, reasonably passable and especially a lot of climbing sometimes. The first time was a bit 'ouch'. It is also advisable not to leave the beach too late and to walk around in the village, where it is very cozy from 16:00. Of course everything is for sale again. You can have a drink and eat well (especially seafood).

When you go for a day, there is a lot of "stacking" when the last boats leave for the return journey, which is why we always go for a few days. You can then travel back on a quiet boat in the early afternoon on the last day. More than 5.000 people visit Koh Larn every day. There is a lot of nature on the island and you hardly see anyone there, but the beaches can be busy at certain times. The speedboats bring tourists who come only to eat and then leave. Funny when you see the tourists, especially Japanese, getting into the sometimes very bobbing speedboat.

Resort

We spend the night on the island in a beautiful resort. Our boss hotels in Pattaya opened a beautiful new resort in Koh Larn last year. Her brothers also have their own resort. These three resorts are next to each other. When you get off the ferry turn right. At the end of the small street and follow the road, you will see the resorts on the left. Our resort is called Kiang Dow. The price is good and the staff are friendly. In the morning you will be served breakfast, which you can eat in peace on your terrace. In the evening you can enjoy delicious food in a few restaurants in the village. Just outside the village is also possible. The host is happy to take you there with his new TukTuk. And then eat by the water on the beach, feasting on the most delicious dishes.

A walk through the village in the evenings is pleasant and relaxing. Although the Thai people are busy cleaning up and preparing for the next day. A visit to the local temple is also fun.

The beaches

Nual Beach
Nual Beach is located in the south of Koh Larn. Follow the road along the east coast all the way to the end. A beautifully situated beach. Via the sandy parking lot with palm trees you walk onto the beach, which is located in a beautiful bay. Many speedboats with day trippers come here. A real “do” beach.

Sama Beach
Drive back a bit and then turn left. You can then choose Samae Beach and Thien Beach. Samae Beach, is popular and can be very busy at times. If you go here you will pass a beautiful viewpoint.

Thien Beach
Back a little bit and follow the Thien Beach sign. Very different again. Thien Beach is 500 meters long and popular with anyone who enjoys water sports. Truly a beach where you can do everything.

Ta Waen Beach
Back to the road the same way to Nual Beach, towards the village and then turn off at the sign: Ta wan Beach. A 750 meter long beach. This beach is especially popular among Asian vacationers. Enough activities, souvenirs, restaurants, etc. Also many day trippers.

Sanwan Beach
Located next to Ta Waen Beach. Same kind of beach but (slightly) quieter.

Tony Long Beach
Ton Lang Beach is a small, quiet beach. You can snorkel here. You can also view the coral from a boat if you don't like snorkeling. Bit difficult to find, because at the end of the road you think you have arrived at a dead end.

My little beach (Daeng Beach)
Is the beach whose name usually does not appear on the tourist brochures and it should stay that way. A small quiet beach where you can now also buy some souvenirs and good food. A drink is also for sale. The chairs are a little less luxurious, but otherwise a lovely and fairly quiet little beach with a beautiful rock formation. Here come the ภาษาไทย like yourself too. Many photos are taken here at the small rocks in the water.

Have a great time on Koh Larn!

A nice island indeed. Once sat on a beach there, they had no more crab. One of those guys jumps on a jet ski, empties a trap and fifteen minutes later we had fresh crab again. Amazing Thailand.

Without wanting to revive the “Pattaya likes/dislikes” discussion; in my humble opinion the boat to Koh Larn is the best Pattaya has to offer! 😉

    • @ I make you an honorary member of the Pattaya fan club! 😉

We do! I hear that all members are required to get a tattoo, is that correct? 😉

        • Yes, and a gold chain plus Singha shirt.
Just kidding Robert. I'm going to Pattaya again for a few days and I'm looking forward to it. By the way, I can become a member because I have a tattoo myself 😉

Okay, and now back to the topic of Koh Larn.

Nice report. Was there about 3 years ago, but saw old jet skis stacked on top of each other in various places. Seemed like things were pretty messed up in that business. Not a big deal and the island is beautiful. Indeed on foot it is hard work!!

Do that now. Now you want to turn every positive bit into a negative thing. YOU WANT TO CONSCIOUSLY KEEP THE DISCUSSION GOING . To stay in your terms. For you, the best of Thailand is the first plane back to the Netherlands

Sorry JAN was meant for Ropbert. Replying to you : Three years ago is not now !!!!

Ruud, I think my comment is only positive, with a big nod to that Pattaya discussion that kept people so busy here. Relax, don't take it all so seriously dude! Nice article, nice island, all nice people on this blog. So please don't get cheated when we fool around a bit.

        • Ruud says up

Ok sorry kidding no problem, but I didn't like that discussion at all.

  3. Another nice story Ruud. I've been there once but rather briefly, just a few hours. Next time I will stay overnight and bring a moped! Good tip.

    wonderfully informative, well written piece.
was there in 2007, unfortunately only a few hours.
Next time just leave it for a few days.

Well well …. Koh Larn is a nice island, especially because compared to the beach of Pattaya & Jomtien, the beach and water is much nicer.

But "a few days" Koh Larn seems excessive to me, 1 night at the most. At least for me. I've been there myself about 3 times, just sitting on the beach with friends and eating good food.

Incidentally, it might be nice to mention that Koh Larn is part of an island group and that there are a few more islands "behind" Koh Larn, but these, like most smaller islands, are under the control of the Thai Navy (but you can visit).

There are also some beautiful islands off the coast of Satthahip and … actually along the entire Eastern Seaboard up to Hat Lek (border with Cambodia) are beautiful islands. Have a look on Google Earth.

Nice 1 night is 2 days so a few. So not that exaggerated after all

      • Chang Noi says up

OK you are (unfortunately) absolutely right! Shall we go together next time?

Sounds nice. But a few days

A beautiful island indeed. But what you have to do with a moped there. I could easily do everything on foot. But then again, I was only sixty-five.

    • Ruud says up

quite a lot, but everyone is not in training for the four days. The island is about 5 km long and 2 km wide and is quite hilly. Take a look there and sit there for a while and then go to the beach and back again, then you quickly reach a 10 to 15 km if you look at everything in one day. But yes always boss over boss. Just walk Hans of 65. You are still young. I'm 66, after all. And remember, not everyone is in great shape. (wanted or unwanted)
      Regards Ruud

    Thank you for the answer.

    • Kevin87g says up

      A one-way ticket 30 baht.. about 75 cents…
Speedboat I think was 1500 bath or something.. but I'm not sure anymore

  8. BramSiam says up

The question about the costs did not materialize for a long time, even though it mainly concerns a blog for the Dutch.

  9. Cor Verkerk says up

Sounds like fun. The resorts are also apparently centrally located.
Can you give a price idea or website?

    Thanks in advance

Is there anything to do in the village….pool bar? bar with companion ladies?
    It's just a question….
