Reporter: Mee Yak

Today Monday morning May 18, 2020 at 9.18 am we went to the Chiang Mai Immigration for my 90 days report. Arriving at the parking lot we had to join the drive trhu. We had 7 cars in front of us and the waiting time per car was less than a minute, until it was the turn of car 8 (that was us) then the handling got a bit complicated. According to the official, I was an overstayer, but after going through everything carefully and thoroughly, I received my note for my next 90 day stay.

My partner wanted to drive off but was ordered to stop. Huhhh, what now? The officer's arm came through the counter window and we were presented with a large green mango. We were both surprised because we had never experienced this here before, but my partner loves green mango with chilli paste, so this was a good start to the day.

At 9.41 am we left the grounds and I must say “hapeau” to the officials of Chiang Mai Immigration.

The next 90 days report will probably go as usual, no drive thru but just wait inside for an hour or two.
But what are we talking about? We stay here for a year each time, I lived in a country (Australia) for years where people worked worse than here in Thailand, so what difference does a few hours of waiting make.

Many Thailandblog commenters are always complaining about the bad immigration policy of the Thai government, but it is a given that every country has a different way of visa policy, but by always complaining about this you will not get anywhere further.

So once again "hapeau" to the men and women who work at Immigration Chiang Mai and who normally have their hands full with farangs who do not agree with Thai policy, you will have to deal with it every day.

Just for the record, I am not a supporter or supporter of the policy of Prayut, praised by Thailand blog writers, but that is another story, I can write a book about that.

The weather is nice, we (a family of 4) live well in Mae Rim Thailand and I hope most of the farang are having a good time here too.

I myself have to do my 30-day 05-2020-90.
As I read, people have a postponement until 31-07-2020.
Or is this no longer valid.

Yes, that postponement is still valid, but why not just drop by at the normally scheduled time. You are then good to go until the end of August. Probably hardly any people now.
I'm just going to also report my 90 days next month without taking that exemption into account.

I don't know how they will organize it from 31/07/20, but there are long queues for the same.

Online is also still an option that you can try

Did my 90 days in Jomtien yesterday. Within two minutes I was out again with an appointment for in 90 days.

      Hi Otto

Is there a special reason why you don't do it via the internet (immigration.go.th) or via the App.(immeservice)?
Then you have no more travel time and / or costs!

      Best regards. Bz

      • Otto de Roo says up

Yes, there was a special reason. The internet application didn't work because this was my first 90 day report. Next time I will definitely report it online.

          Hello Otto,

Thank you for your response and what you raise is typically something that a lot of people don't know and then definitely drop out.

That's why I'm asking because I'm making an inventory of what the possible stuck points are.
Not everything is clearly indicated or is even simply unknown.

For example, to name a few stuck points via immigration.go.th
1- Your first report cannot be made via the Internet.
2- You can only register Online 15 – 7 days before the due date. Now it is 15 – 0 days but I don't know if that will last.
3- In the beginning you have to scroll all the way down in a window and check for agreement
4- In the country of origin question there is no choice Netherlands, Holland or Dutch. Scrolling further down you will find Kingdom of the Netherlands. Not so obvious of course.

If you do not enter or choose something correctly, a window will appear with the text that you should contact the Local Immigration Office, after which people usually drop out.

Hopefully people will respond with what their stumbling block or stuck point was so that I can create the best possible overview so that it becomes possible for everyone to easily register via the Internet.
It is of course extremely easy to arrange this from your home, especially for those people who live far from an Immigration Office.

In any case, I wish you good luck next time when registering via the Internet.

          Best regards. Bz

      Hello BZ,
Indeed, I can do it via the internet, but I make a day out of it.
Lunch is possible again and shopping is also possible again.
This is how I keep my partner happy, she is the driver and we both have something, me my 90 days report, an empty wallet and my Nok Noi again nice clothes and shoes and of course clothes for the kids.
Well, it couldn't be more fun.
      Have a nice day.

        Hello Mee Yak,

Thank you for your response and this is indeed a much heard argument to make a day out of it.
Very pleasant, of course, but when asked, it often turns out that the real reason is that people cannot find a solution on the Internet because they get stuck.

That's why I'm asking because I'm making an inventory of what the possible stuck points are.
Not everything is clearly indicated or is even simply unknown.

4- In the country of origin question there is no choice Netherlands, Holland or Dutch. Scrolling further down you will find Kingdom of the Netherlands. Not so obvious of course.

If you do not fill in or choose something correctly, a window will appear with the text that you should contact the Local Immigration Office, after which people usually drop out.

Hopefully people will respond with what their stumbling block or stuck point was so that I can create the best possible overview so that it becomes possible for everyone to easily register via the Internet.
It is of course extremely easy to arrange this from your home, especially for those people who live far from an Immigration Office.

In any case, I wish you a very nice day out whether or not you register online.
The advantage of online registration is that you can go wherever you want during your day out and are no longer bound by a visit to the Immigration Office. I think even more fun.

        Best regards. Bz

Has already been arranged before April 14, by the way. I hope that this system will also be used in the post-corona era.

Chiang Mai Immigration: Tuesday, May 19: Approx. 10.30 am connected in front of the drive-through counter. 5 cars in front of me. Approx. 3 minutes by car, to the last (van) in front of me which took about 10 minutes.
Very friendly official who handed me the 3 days form within 90 minutes with kind regards in English. They can't make it more fun.
