Father goes out towards Soi Cowboy

It's been haunting my head all day; the scene from a conference by Toon Hermans. Dad goes out. Father throws himself into the mundane, father has something crazy today. Does not suffer from migraines, father is having sex today. Father goes down the wrong path, father wants something now and then.

Nothing wrong with that, so putting words into action, this father, blessed with two fine, large adult sons and ditto daughters-in-law, not to mention three beautiful sweet granddaughters, will be out tonight around nine o'clock. Taxi: and at lightning speed towards Soi Cowboy, where there is definitely something crazy and perhaps also sex to be experienced. He sometimes wants something and on the wrong track.

Drop me off at soi 23 and even before I step into the corner at Cowboy, dad is sucked into Crazy House, so to speak.

Poor girls

Inside I see a lot of poor girls at a glance. They cannot afford a single piece of clothing. I have never met girls in the most remote and smallest villages of Thailand so poor. The poor children must be terribly cold because here and there I see men who feel sorry for them and to give them some warmth take such a poor weight on their lap and gently caress their naked bodies to make them forget the cold.

Let all that poverty pass me by quickly, turn the corner and enter Soi Cowboy. With every step my ego grows bigger and bigger. Vader is liked by the girls, because everywhere they literally fall on his neck and almost beg to come inside. Father is out and allows himself to be seduced by one of Suzie Wong's beautiful young ladies. What am I saying? A lady, nothing, a whole crowd sjors in a radiant daddy from ear to ear. He is well aware that he still likes all those beautiful young kids. Vader feels younger and younger with every step. It symbolizes eternal youth. Vader is a hero, an idol, an Adonis. Unfortunately, what you call poverty is also trump card in this establishment. Literally nothing and the girls are thirsty, very thirsty. The seven works of mercy flash through father's mind. After all, according to the Old Testament, you must clothe the thirsty ravens and the naked. As for the laven; no problem at all, but dressing the nudes is a whole different story. After some time, father leaves the girls in despair and tears in his eyes and walks on.

Soi Cowboy: A street about 300 meters long, between Sukhumvit Road Soi 21 (Asoke) and Sukhumvit Soi 23.

Country road

Attracted by the sounds of the band playing inside, the increasingly youthful father hops into Country Road like a young gazelle. Almost immediately after ordering a gin and tonic, father is joined by one of the many waitresses present. After offering a lady drink, she asks to dance. And father cannot resist such a request. It is not for nothing that the dance diploma was my second piece of paper after high school. Ten dance lessons for twenty-five hard Dutch guilders. You had to pay 2,50 per lesson, which amount was signed off on a card. After the first two lessons, my mother only gave the remaining two tenners to pay for the entire course. After payment I received the dance diploma after two lessons. Noblesse Oblige, so put my best foot forward at Country Road.

Competition

Admittedly my dancing skills are minimal and I can't win the battle here. A table further is a chap who has a lot more to offer in that respect. The admiring glances of many ladies go to him. My competitor is also a reasonable number of years younger and knows his stuff. Carelessly, he takes out a XNUMX baht note and has his table lady put it in the orchestra's tip jar. Triumphantly, the orchestra members give their instruments a little extra thump towards a generous customer, while the note is triumphantly raised in the air. Apparently I'm not generous enough in offering drinks, because my table teacher also leaves for Mister Thousand Baht a little later. In no time, the good man can enjoy the interest of many ladies. So shift my activity to watching the real 'pickers' and order a drink every now and then.

Delicious scenes roll past my eye. A small, spacious seventies with a nice tummy goes to great lengths to please his dance partner. A body decorated with tattoos and adorned with two large earrings dances as if his life depended on it and a young God of around forty shows his excellent dance steps with verve. The less gifted leave the dance steps for what they are and turn them into a kind of hand-to-hand combat.

Father gives up

Toon sounds softly in father's ear again. "Father doesn't have that mundane thing he often talks about, but it's a nice scene when he's in front of the mirror."

Pay the bill somewhat disillusioned and walk towards the hotel. With every step, father comes to the conclusion that when he stands in his flannel in the hotel room, he will be bursting with sleep.

    Wonderful story, Joseph!

I too often think of that Toon Hermans song when I visit an a go go bar:

“I will always be happy with this
But father thought that was a bit long”

All ladies in Thailand want that too, but often it means for them: “I go with you and love your for 5 minutes”

    “Father suddenly sees a spot
    On that bare shoulder blade
    Father thinks: well, a spot
    But he hates that neck
As if the spot is getting bigger”

This text comes to mind when I see a lady with the most wonderful tattoos again, for me such a lady immediately falls off in my options.

Isn't it beautiful, the versatile oeuvre of Toon Hermans, drawn from life.
I told my wife who Toon was and what he did, more than once I quote from that oeuvre for my wife, she immediately understands what it is all about.
She comes back every now and then when I dress up a bit extra before we go to a special occasion with .. yes, indeed ... Vader Goes out ... but not alone!
Very recognizable this piece Joseph, beautifully written.

If you walk through Soi Cowboy around noon. Do you see the gray reality. In the end, there are few attractions to see. Always remember the saying. The more pints one drinks, the more beautiful the women become.
