Jens from Germany

I have known Jens from Germany for several years as a nice man, eternally single and a “butterfly” first class. He works hard in a Mercedes Benz factory and usually comes to Pattaya twice a year to celebrate.

He occasionally writes about his experiences with the ladies on Facebook and does so in his own Dresdner dialect. A few months ago he had a long story about his adventure with one of the ladies, but it was pure porn and was soon removed from Facebook.

Below is his most recent anecdote, which I translated with a smile:

“On the first day of my holiday in Pattaya I had already seen quite a few sights and around five o'clock in the afternoon I sat down at such a cozy open-air bar. I was tired and ordered a nice cold beer to relax me.

If only a half-naked brat of a girl came and sat next to me and asked me bluntly if I wanted to sleep with her.

Well, I thought, what a brutality. In Germany I would have spoken to her in a punitive manner or perhaps even given her a slap in the face. Barely 19 years old and already such a lack of respect for older men.

But yes, I was abroad, I didn't know the manners and customs, and I didn't know what to do.

Purely out of fear of the consequences, I said “yes” after all.”

Where do these prejudices about Thailand come from? .. this gentleman pretends that you can only meet girls or women like this in Thailand, you will find them everywhere and certainly in countries where many poor people live.

You have to decide for yourself that you go on a sex holiday to Thailand, I have nothing against everyone, but to then report your experiences in scents and colors on Facebook is really going too far for me I think it is disrespectful to those ladies in Pattaya, good thing it was removed.

Totally agree, @farang tt, where I always wonder why and why Thailandblog always thinks it should post these kinds of stories. We know that by now. Why promote this? Shouldn't a more critical view of this kind of sex tourism be an issue in 2014? Surely it is known that many abuses are associated with that sex tourism? What is the purpose of this kind of display of personal preferences?

Ah, dear Soi, it's like corruption. We are ashamed of it, but in the meantime we all pay 300 baht because otherwise you have to wait for hours at the police station. Outrage and hypocrisy often go hand in hand.

Peter, the equation with corruption is flawed. And to insinuate hypocrisy is completely crazy. I pay the 300 baht, but it is too much for my honor to accept such invitations from a 19-year-old hooker.

First Soi. As long as both agree and are of age, they should know what they are doing is my position. I myself often have more trouble with the moralists and do-gooders than the people who honestly state their intentions. The reason for this is that the first group usually have it quite behind the elbows. Just ask in Rome how that works exactly.

What Gringo writes might as well confirm the stereotype of the idler or, in this case, the airhead.
Such people as Jens naturally spread the less pleasant prejudices about beautiful Thailand, but especially their own.
Don't be so concerned that this will be denounced again. People who go along with the less favorable prejudices, in the first place, stigmatize themselves.
If you meet someone like that, in bar beer's, what do it yourself, of all places. well yes. Well, I would dare to say to the guy you have nothing better to say. But most of the time wisely keep silent for the sake of peace and think my own of it. However, long conversations – let alone interesting ones – are rare.

Purely out of fear of the consequences, I said “yes” after all.” He could also have said “no”.
I hope he now knows the possible consequences for life. I don't know Pattaya and I don't think I'll ever get there. For years now, when I tell people that I live in Thailand, I see a grin on the face of the person addressed, thinking that I am a sex tourist again. Most people only know or know that. They don't even know that Thailand is as big as France. Visit Thailand and avoid the places where you can't resist the temptation.

Ehhhh about your first 2 sentences, this is a sarcastic story.

Daniel, I have the exact same experience. After my Dutch wife died in 2007, a friend persuaded me to go to Pattaya. I must honestly admit that a world opened up for me. But after I saw it twice, I never wanted to go to Pattaya again. I understand the women who do “work”, but I was disgusted by the system. Through an acquaintance in the Netherlands I came into contact with a Thai woman, (coincidence?) first via the internet and after chatting for a few months I looked her up. We clicked, and still do after more than three years! To such an extent that I took the step to emigrate to Thailand. I live with her in the far northeast, and it is beautiful there. But every day I hear from friends in the Netherlands, watch out, etc. etc.

Not to chat…but Thailand is a few taps bigger than France I think. Did you miss the plan there?

      • Dick van der Lugt says up

@ Franky R Small correction. Thailand measures 513.00 square kilometers; France 551.500 square kilometers.

Let's not beat around the bush, it's an undeniable fact that many men from all walks of life and ages go to Thailand solely for 'one thing', there's no denying that they really don't come just for the temples, Buddha statues and the delicious food.
Pattaya is in that respect with * at number 1.

Without wanting to make a value judgment about it, don't get me wrong, but where can the man who can barely decorate a ladies' bicycle literally and figuratively come to his senses so easily, where can the disappointed man who has gone through one or more (f) divorces? has gone completely crazy to make him forget his worries, where better to go than that old-fashioned annual holiday with the caravan and where can the elderly man still have the illusion that he is a 'sexy handsome man'?

To ask the question is to give the answer.

    • Stefan says up

      For just one thing??

I would qualify that. Is an important reason for many. But it fits into a bigger picture:
      Easy and cheap travel around
      Safety
      Cheap
      Good food
      cheap hotels
      City on beach
      Friendly people
Less strict rules (= more freedom)

Temples? No. But on every Thailand trip I enter a number of them.
In other countries I rarely enter churches.

As if it is not in the Netherlands! But because of the weather there people do 'it' behind double glazing and with the heating on 10. In many 'massage tents' in NL you can just make a seesaw. And then there are the clubs. And the home addresses.

Thailand stands out because of the great poverty among the bottom layer of society. Low-educated people who have to choose between filling boxes for the minimum wage or working in the pleasure industry have quickly made the choice for the better-invested rice cake. And then the climate here invites you to flirt in public where you have to do that in NL with a thick coat on and a scarf …… Woolen socks, go ahead!
