Chiang Rai is the capital of the northernmost – eponymous – province of Thailand, bordering (clockwise from the south) the provinces of Phayao, Lampang and Chiang Mai and Myanmar and Laos. The mighty Mekong – Mae Nam Khong – forms the border with the latter country.

Does anyone have an address where we (husband and wife 66 years old) can rent an apartment with 2 bedrooms for 2 months? Preferably with air conditioning, close to the sea at Cha-am. We stayed in Methavali Hotel a number of times and are looking for something in that area.

This morning at the hairdresser. Had to search for a while because he had already moved for the 2nd time. Reader's submission: Intention to deviate from tax return regarding deduction of integration course costs
On October 1, I received a letter from the tax authorities that the deduction of the costs of the integration course that I made in the tax return in 2015 will be reversed by means of Supreme Court ruling no. 17/03158. I assume that more people have received this letter. I have filed an appeal to this effect below. Perhaps others will benefit from this as well.

Have read a story about the ING bank and TAN codes on the blog, and here are some more ING experiences with this “international” bank.
I think most people know what banks in the Netherlands and Thailand charge for transferring your AOW and pension. That is four bank handling costs (2x in the Netherlands and 2x Thailand + number of % of amounts that are sent. In my case, that costs approximately 135 Euros per month in total.

How can a Bank, rescued by the Dutch taxpayer, now let its customers in Thailand and in other countries so much in the lurch? Transferring and paying with Tancodes has been put an end to. Now that in itself is not so bad. Wasn't it that ING didn't have the new system up and running for everyone.

Thailand has a complicated society. Complicated due to large visible contradictions. Compare the consumptive character of Bangkok with the subdued poverty of other regions. But other interpretations of common norms and values also seem to be valid in Thailand. For example, Thailand says it has its own form of democracy, has a different interpretation of the concept of the rule of law, and there is a big difference in how people in Thailand interact with each other.
