Of the small birds in Thailand, the sunbird is one of my favorites, just because of the name. It can be found almost everywhere in Thailand. It is indeed a very small bird, no larger than about 11 centimeters.

From caterpillar to butterfly
Despite the rainy season, life in the garden goes on. For example, some time ago I found droppings on the tiles under a tree. These were almost the size of a mouse. Then it turned out that there were some beautiful caterpillars in the tree, which took care of that and were unknown to me. No leaves were affected.

By finding a cicada and regularly hearing various chirping sounds, I started to study these insects a bit more. This group of animals are somewhat similar to each other and seem to be related to the Orthoptera.
Injured wild elephant may have died after anesthesia by vet
A wild elephant died this week. Presumably the same elephant that killed two tappers from a rubber plantation in September. The animal was shot in the leg. Whether poisoning of the wound is the cause is still under investigation.
Forest giants and corona
I have a healthy dose of awe for elephants. The jungle on the opposite side of the Mun flowing next to our house is settled by the mahogany, the elephant drivers, used to graze their animals for a few days and so I have come to know the pachyderms well, especially the daredevils, who occasionally Cross Mun to skillfully loot my banana trees. Like my four-legged friend Sam, I can't get enough of these majestic forest giants and they fascinate me enormously.
Rare pink dolphins spotted at Surat Thani
On Sunday morning, three rare pink dolphins were spotted by tourists in the sea between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan in the southern coastal province of Surat Thani.
Monitor lizards in Lumphini Park
In 2016, about a hundred monitor lizards were caught in Lumphini Park (Bangkok) because the number there became too large. They move to the Khaoson Wildlife Breeding Center in Chom Bung (Ratchaburi). The sheer number of these beasts can also disrupt the park's ecosystem.

The water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is an aquatic plant from the pontederia family (Pontederiaceae). The plant originates from South America. The lilac flowers resemble those of the hyacinth, but the plants are not related.

Once I took a little walk near our house. It was already evening, no local traffic. Suddenly I saw a Barn Owl, Common Barn Owl, Tyto Alba feasting on a rat.
Since 2006, I have been living half way through the Nimitmai. Although it is an hour's taxi ride to Ekkamai-BTS, about 25 km., I am still satisfied!
