Thailand's Department of National Parks has closed 12 marine national parks due to severe coral bleaching caused by rising sea temperatures. Between 50-70% of the coral is affected. The closure, including parks such as Mu Koh Chang and Mu Koh Phi Phi, should prevent further damage. Shading devices and temperature monitoring are used to promote coral recovery.
