So-called 'body snatcher' teams are at work in Bangkok. In contrast to the west, Bangkok works with a kind of two-stage system in emergency situations. When there is an accident or a crime involving dead or injured victims, a team of volunteers springs into action.

These care providers determine whether an ambulance with medical equipment is necessary. The 'basic teams' handle about 60% of all emergencies, such as delivering the patient to the emergency room of hospitals in Bangkok.

Most Thais believe that helping others, whether their fellow human beings are injured or dead, earns merit and offers themselves the prospect of a better life. It is an important part of Buddhist thought.

In this video from 'The Guardian' you can see Noppadon at work one of the volunteers who are also mockingly called 'body snatchers'.
