Top 10 Christmas holiday destinations: The Dutch fly to Bangkok

Many Dutch people prefer a Christmas or New Year abroad to a cozy December at the Christmas tree. Airline ticket– and hotel search engine momondo.nl analyzed its search data for flight tickets to gain insight into the most popular December destinations.

Which destinations are favorite among Dutch travelers this year? And what do you pay on average for a return ticket?

From the dates of momondo.nl it turns out that long-distance travel is especially popular among the Dutch in 2018. No less than 7 of the 10 most popular Christmas holiday destinations are outside Europe, with Bangkok, New York and Cape Town in the top 5. Further in the top 10 are Denpasar (Bali), Dubai , Miami and Manila (Philippines).

It is striking that the Dutch seem to prefer the warmth in the cold December, with New York being the only exception as a non-European destination. Within Europe, Istanbul, London and Lisbon are the most popular destinations to spend Christmas and New Year's Eve.

    By Christmas for Euro 635, a return ticket AMS BKK is more of an illusion than reality. 😉

    This is an incorrect message, the return tickets are many times higher in euros, KLM with 1 stopover is €1900 per person. And a via via ticket €1400.
    I've been going for Christmas for 23 years but skip this year because of the high prices (this price applies if you book a year in advance.
