Anyone flying with Nok Air from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani can also use a free bus service from March 1 to take you to Si Sa Ket.

Si Sa Ket is a province in the south-east of Thailand (Isan) that borders Cambodia and is rich in special Khmer ruins and temples.

Nok Air currently flies three times a day on the Bangkok (Don Mueang) – Ubon Ratchathani route. The flight takes one hour and five minutes. Passengers can then transfer to a van on presentation of their flight ticket to Si Sa Ket. This ride takes approximately 30 minutes.

Nok Air also announces that a direct connection between Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani was started some time ago. It concerns three flights per week with a Q400 aircraft (86 seats).

From March 25, Nok Air will fly on the route Bangkok – Mae Hong Son (three flights a week). This is a code share agreement with Thai Airways International and THAI Smile Airways.

30 minutes from Ubon Ratchathani to Si Sa Ket??
You won't even get out of Ubon Ratchathani in 30 minutes.
    Just make it 1.5 – 2 hours.

Nok Air has had such a formula for a while.
For example, you can travel from Chiang Mai to Vientiane Laos, flight from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani with a Q-400, then bus service to NongKhai, then pass the border posts and then the last bus ride to the center of Vientiane.

You come up with a very bad example. Because you can just fly direct from Bangkok to Vientiane in 1 hour and 10 minutes with Air Asia, Bangkok Airways and others.
Example here recently on this blog in a reader question: flight to Sakhon Nakhon and then the bus to Mukdahan. With Nokair.

        I don't think so Ger.
If you are staying in Chiang Mai this is a good way. If you first have to fly from Chiang to Bangkok and then again from Bangkok to Vientiane, the costs are much higher.

In my example I also speak about Chiang Mai and not about Bangkok because I live in Chiang Mai. 🙂

It is true that you can fly direct to vientienna. But an unfavorable tide both out and back.
If you want to go to the Thai embassy, you need 4 days this way.
Airasia and nokair fly early to udon thani and in the afternoon and evening to don muang.
You can then arrange the paperwork on day 1 before 11.30 am and pick it up the day after from 1.30 am.
In that case you only need 1 night.
This way is my preference. Just fly to udon thani and arrange your own mini bus to the border and then taxi to vientienna.
