Flight tickets to Bangkok from € 137,-

KLM is not happy with the arrival of yet another low-cost airline at Schiphol, but it is good news for us Thailand visitors. For example, you will soon be able to buy a single one at Norwegian travel book from Amsterdam to Bangkok from € 137,- (all-in)*.

In ten years, low-cost carrier Norwegian has already grown into Scandinavia's second-largest airline and Europe's third-largest low-cost airline after Easyjet and Ryanair. But the company is advancing further: at the beginning of this year no fewer than 222 new aircraft were ordered.

Cheap tickets bangkok

With this, Norwegian not only wants to conquer Scandinavia, but also the rest of Europe. And not only with destinations within Europe, but also worldwide. The run on the first cheap tickets to New York and Bangkok recently started. Meanwhile, airline SAS threatens to die.

KLM not happy

“KLM is not afraid of competition, but it does want fair competition. According to KLM, this is not the case with Emirates and within Europe with fast-growing companies such as Ryanair and Norwegian. We lost quite a few passengers to Emirates at Schiphol. With an A380, they not only suck customers away from Schiphol, but also from English airports where we operate. Those passengers are now transferring in Dubai. Emirates succeeds because there are enough petrodollars. With oil money, Norwegian can further distort relations within Europe," KLM CEO Peter Hartman warned on Monday during a meeting of the Dutch Aviation Group in Noordwijk.

Website Norwegian flat

The low-cost carrier's website went offline last week due to overload after it released ticket sales to Bangkok and New York. Norwegian will begin intercontinental flights in May and June when it takes delivery of the first of eight Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners. A one-way ticket from Oslo to New York can be booked with Norwegian from 137 euros. The from prices to Bangkok will also be in that order of magnitude.

This makes Norwegian much cheaper than other airlines operating intercontinental flights from Oslo. In addition, Norwegians often have to transfer to other airports due to the limited range of distant destinations. Norwegian will also fly from Stockholm Arlanda to both New York JFK and Bangkok.

Thai crew

To save costs, Norwegian will use on flights to and from Bangkok Thai crew members. That is why a crew base is being set up in the Thai capital. In this way, and in combination with the lower operating costs of the 787, the airline expects to be able to charge significantly lower fares than the competition.

The first 787 will be delivered to Norwegian in April 2013. In 2015, all eight Dreamliners must be put into service. Norwegian will add more destinations to the route network at a later stage.

*Note: the exact price from Amsterdam is not yet known, this price applies to a one-way ticket from Oslo to Bangkok. It is possible that a ticket from Amsterdam will be fractionally higher due to local surcharges.

this is a reason to fly the flag, finally there will be movement again in the long-distance rates, I will make reservations in advance

    • Pfff, I just booked a one-way ticket to Bangkok for € 400 last week. Overpaid again.

      • French says up

Peter, you say a one-way ticket…well, that's not expensive, is it?

  2. Cornelis says up

More competition is fine – but the profit has to be made somewhere, I think. More seats in it, in length and in width, is one of the ways. If you then pay such a super low rate, you should not complain too quickly when it comes to space, etc. Incidentally, KLM also does this (more seats): KLM (and Emirates in the 777) uses the 777-3-4 configuration in the 3, while Singapore Airlines, for example, uses 3-3-3 in the same aircraft. Three guesses at the expense of that extra seat – right, just install narrower seats……………
Incidentally, I question the stated rates when I see that a 'regular' return flight from Amsterdam – Bangkok already has more than 300 euros in taxes and levies. Will therefore be a 'fight rate' to take customers away from other companies.

  3. BA says up

If that is 137 euros for Oslo-BKK, then AMS – BKK will be considerably more expensive.

Departing from Amsterdam is simply a lot more expensive due to surcharges and taxes. I have traveled together with colleagues from Norway. They paid less for a ticket Stavanger – AMS – BKK than I paid for the same flight AMS – BKK.

But keep an eye on it, sharper prices are always welcome 🙂

    • @ Ba, of course I looked at the website and came across return tickets AMS – BKK for just over € 400 all in. That is a super competitive price!

      • Mike37 says up

That is indeed a very competitive price, so good news, the more competition the better I think.

        • @ Yes, annoying for KLM, but in the Netherlands everyone has to hand in and then you look a little closer at the price of a ticket. 'Seems logical' JC would say ;-).

      • Jan-Udon says up

        Dear Khan
Perhaps it would be nice to also mention the website and the company.
A lot of people benefit from that.
Now it's such an empty cry!

        Sincerely, Jan.

        • Read the article again because the name of the company is just in it.

          • Jan-Udon says up

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I was referring to your text of November 20:
            "quote"
Ba, of course I looked at the website and came across return tickets AMS – BKK for just over € 400 all in. That is a super competitive price!

Because I've never seen such a price before.
My cheapest ticket was € 456,- once for a return.
            Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Bangkok.
From AMS to Tel Aviv = 5 hours. Then wait four hours. Then Tel Aviv to BKK 15 hours flight. From Tel Aviv we flew a long way into the Mediterranean to be able to climb to 10.000 meters, then south straight over the middle of the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. Then all the way under Yemen. Then straight up towards Delhi India. There he reconnected to the flight corridor just below the plate from Tibet to BKK, so a 15-hour flight. This is for the reason that EL-AL does not (may) fly over Muslim territory. Traveling 27 hours in all. That was not fun. A month later on the return trip to NL I was no longer allowed to go.
No sir, we have transferred your ticket to another company!
That turned out to be KLM so I almost jumped for joy, a direct flight BKK–AMS. But I also didn't find it interesting to fly with an airline where 14 Israeli military police must be standing at the entrance of a pier that has been cordoned off in front of them, both in Schiphol and in Bangkok, with a carbine at the ready. I would rather pay 200,- more!!! OK enough.
I am very happy with Norwegian air, I am a 65 year old winter resident in Thailand.
We should actually send this Norwegian air a congratulations with hundreds of Thailand visitors. And a promise that hundreds of Dutch people will use their services. Especially if a single journey also means a single price. KLM has fooled us for too long with a price of a one-way ticket that was often more expensive than a return ticket!
Maybe someone will read: Norwegian air
            SO with this already: CONGRATULATIONS.
            Greetings Jan

Unbelievable Jan-Udon, so if I understand it those girls had passed on that you had criticized and that was the reason that you were no longer allowed to fly with them on the return journey…??? Don't get crazy!!

              • Cornelis says up

I have tried different reading glasses, Miek37, but I still do not read in Jan-Udon's text what you seem to have read. I'm starting to worry.......

                • Moderator: My fault, apologies. I have removed text after Miek37's response.

              • Jan-Udon says up

                Dear Miek37
Too bad the moderator cut out part of the story.
Because now it doesn't work anymore.
                Now an edited version!
I commented on what was happening in Israel at the time during the flight.
I hope the moderator thinks this is fair enough.
                Then my point is understandable.

                Thanks
                Kind regards Jan

                • Mike37 says up

Dear Jan-Udon, it completely eludes me why your text has been changed, as far as I know there was no dissatisfied word in it and as Cornelis's response has shown, it only causes confusion, a pity.

  4. cor verhoef says up

It is very funny to hear the KLM cooing, “be honest”.

  5. Rob V says up

"With oil money, Norwegian can further distort relations within Europe," KLM CEO Peter Hartman warned.

Will Norwegian get oil money then? It is common knowledge that emirates make ends meet (and therefore not completely fair competition), but what does that have to do with Norwegian? As it says in the article, they are simply cheaper due to the composition of the crew, fleet, etc., which is just fair competition.

    • Erik says up

Norway is the richest oil country in Europe. Norway is also not a member of the EU, is not important to them because of the oil.

  6. Fransamsterdam says up

    See first, then believe.
For a direct return flight I usually spend 600.- to 800.- euros, and that usually works out, outside the well-known high seasons.
I do NOT believe that next year there will be more than a handful of lucky people flying back and forth from Amsterdam for less than 400.- euros.
Getting the crew from Thailand is of course a golden opportunity. Costs less and the valuation is higher. KLM should do the same and then set up a Thai crew base in Amsterdam 🙂

Norwegian.com is ambitious. For comparison: KLM has 115 aircraft and 28 on order. Norwegian.com has 62 aircraft and – as I read in the article – 222 on order.

It seems quite risky to me to invest in Norwegian shares, but if you come across a nice price for a ticket, it is of course a bonus.

I hope that the editors will bring this article forward again in about eight months, then we can evaluate a few things.

  7. math says up

Nice marketing strategy… How long will this take? You order the latest boeing dreamliners, which you have to pay off, then the landing costs, kerosene price that is gigantic high, personnel costs, food, drinks on board and then charge those prices. Don't believe this at all!!! Yes, maybe the first 3 months, no longer!

  8. I googled a bit and then I found this about Norwegian:

“Norwegian's service is limited to one class, namely economy class. Norwegian's seats are simple, but comfortable. Due to Norwegian's low-ost concept, you pay for food and drinks on board. You also pay a fee for other avoidable extras, such as baggage check-in and priority boarding.”

In short, check-in is free, but if you have luggage you have to pay, as well as for food and drinks on board.
I wonder what remains of the "price advantage".

    • @ Dick, that information applies to continental flights. It is now new that they will also provide intercontinental flights. Other rules apply.

      • Cornelis says up

You hope so, that different rules apply for that …………… I think companies are free to do so and if people are willing to give up even more legroom and seat width for an even lower rate, those companies can go ahead – as long as they do not create standing places because then safety will be compromised………….
Incidentally, I look at those predicted rates with the fixed taxes and all kinds of mandatory levies and then I can only conclude that the reality content - certainly in the longer term - is not high (and then I say it carefully.......).

  9. Lex K. says up

I am also looking for flights from this airline, but I only find return flights bkk>>ams, and pay attention; By default, the price is indicated in pounds sterling, in June the cheapest one-way ticket is 271.90 and the most expensive is 391.90 Euro, so this is a one-way ticket from Bangkok to Amsterdam.
Who has found departing flights from Amsterdam and at what price?
If I see the price like this, then it will not be much cheaper than, for example, EVA

    Regards,

    Lex

  10. Ernst Otto Smit says up

Competition is good, but airport taxes should be lowered. These are now for flights from Schiphol at 340 euros per ticket (EVA return to Bangkok.)

When Phuket Air started flying on the AMS-BKK & Phuket route, there was also panic in the tent. We probably pay too much for plane tickets. Let the budget airlines fly and compete. This is only good for the consumer 🙂

    • Cornelis says up

Agree with you, fine of course, those budget airlines. But if you then fly for an absolute bottom price, one should not complain – and I do not mean this personally – here on Thailand blog about lack of space, the quality of the food and possibly. an unsatisfactory frequent-flyer program…………….
Myself – I know, that is highly personal – I like to spend a little above that 'bottom' for what I like in terms of comfort, etc. If you compare the difference with the total of the expenses for your stay, then it is usually not too bad !

      • Jan-Udon says up

Moderator: Your comment is off-topic and therefore off-topic.

      • Jan-Udon says up

        Dear moderators!
I'm sorry you judged my comment to be Off Topic.
I was responding to the writing of Mr. Cornelis and definitely had to do with the prizes for flying. If we have to pay all KLM prices permanently, a lot of Thailand visitors will have to drop out. Why?
        Due to Dutch government measures.
        I explained why. . . . . . . .
Maybe you can create a follow-up Topic for that. It is in all of our interests.
If Norwegian Air cuts food costs, and the frequent-flyer program is disappointing and I can fly a few hundred cheaper, then that's fine with me!
With this intro my answer to Mr. Cornelis more acceptable I hope.

        Dear Cornelius
I'm 65 now but I used to go to school with a lunch box,
why couldn't I do that again on the plane.
Plus, I can eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I feel like it!
With a thermos I even have my own “House Coffee” with me!
If I don't have to pay to pee during the flight, I'm fine with that!

        With your permission,
        Yours sincerely,
        JKF den Hertog

        • Cornelis says up

I have absolutely nothing against it, Jan-Udon. I only say - also indicating that this is strongly personal - that I myself am prepared to pay a little more than a bottom price in order (among other things) not to have to bring my own lunchbox and a thermos of coffee, as you say. Isn't it nice that we have that choice?

  11. Richard says up

The big difference is impossible! I don't believe any of this either. First see and believe,
The existing airlines will never accept this .

    • Jan-Udon says up

      Dear Richard
This is a very rare comment.
As if a baker in a street can forbid the other baker to sell his sandwiches a few cents cheaper.
That would indicate cartel agreements, and that is prohibited, is even a crime.
      Regards Jan.

  12. The best part of the story is, everyone is speculating.
And nobody knows what will happen.

  13. He says up

Cheap because I think Norway has no EURO. And is one of the richest countries. Natural gas and oil producer. I myself will not travel to Thailand again until the end of next year. Who knows, I might be lucky with a cheap ticket.
    Regards Han.

  14. kees says up

If this price becomes the standard they will make me happy.
Still higher prices now, although I now fly from Brussels.

    Check out return tickets http://www.thailandtravel.nl

    Return tickets from 375.–
    Well from Brussels
    both to Bangkok and Phuket

You can also upgrade to comfort class.

prices of airline tickets vary per day at various companies.

For the price of Norwegian I would fly back and forth even more often.
website indicates only from July 2013?

  15. Never cheer too soon There is nothing more opaque than the price of plane tickets. In the world of public transport, these companies are the only ones that use an extremely flexible rate system, a program that responds to supply and demand. All companies are there to fill their seats, the fact that opaque rules are used is typical of the business. You have to make money unless you really practice philanthropy to eventually conquer the market (or a large part of it), after which prices will rise enormously. The battle in the air is far from over, the advantage that the customer apparently gains will only be short-lived. How different from the world of the train where a ticket at the counter always costs the same, unless those companies also go on the Net and start showing the same practices. Who is really rewarded is he who wants to travel without a date and waits and searches until the lowest price is found.

  16. Johan says up

I just bought 4 tickets Bangkok with Finnair, who has experience with Finnair?

    • @ Great company, nothing but praise. Got a free upgrade to business class once when I came back from Bangkok. They can't break me anymore.

    • Richard says up

      Hello Johan,

Is this from Bangkok to Amsterdam?

      or from Amsterdam to Bangkok?

      • Johan says up

It is a return ticket Amsterdam -Bangkok at fly shop 29-7-2013-26-8-2013 with favorable transfer times. Nice price for the high season I thought.

  17. Freezer Danny says up

From when can you book a flight with Norwegian from Amsterdam to Bangkok?
On the site I see that one can only book from Oslo!!

  18. Sip says up

You can only fly from Bangkok via Oslo to Amsterdam from June 2013 and not from Amsterdam to Bangkok.
The cheapest flight is 270 euros plus a 5 euro credit card fee.

    • Cornelis says up

Seems very strange to me – surely there is no other way than that flights are made in both directions?

      • Jan-Udon says up

        Well responded Cornelius
Otherwise they would have to buy a new plane for every flight.
        Greetings Jan

  19. kees says up

There is still speculation about Norwegian Airways. I haven't been able to find any price yet.
From Copenhagen and Oslo it says, from June.
I can't find a single flight from Amsterdam yet.
http://www.norwegian.com is it the correct website?
Anyway.. I'm not flying right now enjoy bangkok.
whoever wants to take his thermos with him must have it filled behind customs. Here a cup of coffee costs about 3.20 euros at starbucks.
You can only take 100 ml through customs. I have not been able to find a thermos of 100 ml. (little joke)
