Airport Schiphol Amsterdam

2012 was a good year for Dutch airports. The number of air passengers rose to almost 2012 million in 56, more than 3 percent more than in 2011, according to Statistics Netherlands.

New passenger record at Schiphol Airport

Schiphol Airport broke records and processed no fewer than 51 million travellers. Never before has this airport seen so many passengers in one year. In 1980 only 10 million passengers traveled via Schiphol, in 2002 the 40 million mark was broken. Passenger traffic at the other airports grew by no less than 12 percent in the past year.

Larger turnover of aviation companies in 2012

The turnover of the aviation companies increased by 2012 percent in 8 to nearly 11 billion euros. Increased passenger numbers and passed-on fuel prices boosted turnover. About 80 percent of the turnover is accounted for by passenger transport. In 2012, Dutch airports achieved approximately 3 percent more turnover.

Less air freight

Less freight was transported in 2012 than in 2011. The amount of air freight fell by more than 3 percent to 1,5 million tonnes. The main cause of this contraction is poor world trade. Schiphol remains one of the leading cargo airports in Europe.
