In the third quarter of 2018, almost 22,8 million passengers flew to and from the Netherlands, 2,6 percent more than in the same quarter in 2017. As in the previous quarter, the airports of Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht, Rotterdam and Groningen to handle more passengers. The three largest airports also experienced their busiest summer this year.

This is reported by Statistics Netherlands in the Aviation Quarterly Monitor.

Amsterdam Schiphol saw almost 2018 million passengers arrive and depart in the third quarter of 20, 1,1 percent more than in the same quarter a year earlier. In August 2018, more than 6,8 million passengers flew through this airport for the first time. The busiest day was August 10. On this Friday, a total of 269 thousand air passengers called at Schiphol.

Summer has never been so busy for Eindhoven and Rotterdam

Eindhoven and Rotterdam The Hague Airport also experienced their busiest July, August and September this year. Eindhoven handled almost 1,9 million passengers, 10,4 percent more than in the third quarter of 2017. 686 thousand passengers flew via Rotterdam The Hague, 18,9 percent more than a year earlier. At both airports, Malaga and Alicante were in the top 3 most popular destinations. Many travelers also flew to Budapest from Eindhoven. Faro was the most popular destination from Rotterdam.

Relatively the largest passenger growth for Maastricht Airport

The number of passengers flying via Maastricht Aachen Airport increased the most of all Dutch airports. Since May of this year, the number of flight destinations at Maastricht has increased considerably. The number of passengers doubled from 67 thousand in the third quarter of 2017 to 135 thousand in the third quarter of 2018. That is still less than Schiphol processed on a busy day. Maastricht is a relatively small airport. The share of passengers who flew via this airport was only 0,6 percent of the total number of travelers at Dutch airports. Groningen Eelde received 16,8 percent more travelers in the third quarter of 2018.
