Dear editors,

I have the following issue, I have booked a ticket to Thailand and I now find out that I have now been there for 31 days. Will this cause problems with my visa because I am there 1 day too long?

Looking forward to your response!

Regards,

Noud

Dear Noud,

With a Visa Exemption you get permission to stay in Thailand for 30 days without interruption.
In your case you stay for 31 days, and strictly speaking you are one day in overstay. (without extension)
You are in violation and the immigration officer will decide what will happen. Usually a fine of 500 Baht per day of overstay is imposed.
In practice, however, this will not be too bad for you. In most cases, a day overstay will not even be charged, especially if you leave just after midnight and you would count this as your 31st day.

However, always try to avoid overstay. At first sight it all seems to be not too bad with that fine…, until something happens just during that overstay of course. It is often forgotten that people are illegally in the country at that time.

Have fun!

RonnyLatPhrao
