Dear Ronnie,

I have a non-immigrant O multiple entries visa for 1 year. I go to Immigration for my 90 days stamp and they say that with these visas I have to leave the country after 90 days. So I do NOT get a 90 day stamp there. Upon re-entering I would then again get 90 days. So I need avisa run" doing.

Can someone tell me the best way to do that from Hua Hin to Myanmar? What is the fastest and easiest? Will I get a 30 or 15 day stamp because it is not by plane?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Regards,

Willy (BE)

Dear Willy,

If you have a Non-immigrant “O” Multiple entry visa, you will have a maximum stay of 90 days upon entry.

Either you then extend that period of residence by one year through your local immigration office and then you will have to meet conditions, or you make a “Borderrun” to obtain a new period of residence of 90 days.

With a new entry you will always receive a period of stay that is in accordance with the visa you hold. In your case that is 90 days. You will only receive 30 days if you enter on the basis of “Visa Exemption” and that is not applicable in your case because you have a visa. 15 days “Visa Exemption” has been abolished for 2 years. It is now becoming 30 days “Visa Exemption”.

As far as “Borderruns” are concerned, I think that from Hua Hin it is best to use Ranong or Phu Nam Ron (Kanchanaburi).

I used to always use Phu Nam Ron (Kanchanaburi) and was quite satisfied with it. You'll be done in about an hour. I have no experience with Ranong, but readers might.

From Ranong you at least have to take a boat to a Burmese island. As almost always: learn English and read thaivisa.com, the relevant forum branch almost always contains the fairly recent how-and-what. If I remember correctly, at least 2 nights of HTL are needed there and the border trip in between. To get from HHin to Ranong is not very simple, so the express buses from BKK rush past. But from there to Kan-buri is not very simple either, especially if you are not used to traveling independently for Th. Better ask first whether there are not those border shuttle buses at increased farang prices from HHin, which is inhabited by many farang.

Hello! I still have a crucial question: If I do a visa run from Kanchananaburi. Do I need a visa for Myanmar in advance? I am told that I should not even enter Myanmar territory, that I will get the stamp in my passport from nomansland. Is that right? Because if not, I have to go to Myanmar Embassy in BKK. Back and forth… I called Friday morning, after 9am. already went to the Myanmar Embassy 3 times and couldn't get anyone on the phone there. I have already ordered a bus to Kanchanaburi for Tuesday…
    Thank you for your answer!

No, you do not need a visa for Myanmar if you do a “border run” in Phu Nam Ron.
You do enter Myanmar for an in/out stamp, but a visa is not required for this.
The village where the Myanmar immigration post is located is called Htee Kee.

There are buses from Kanchanaburi bus station to Phu Nam Ron. The Thai immigration post is located there. That is roughly 60 km from Kanchanaburi.
There is a travel agency in Phu Nam Ron and before the Thai passport control. (Used to be after passport control but I was told they are now in front of passport control.)
Go there and say it's for a “border run”. They arrange everything and tell you what to do.
Briefly explained, it goes as follows.
Yes goes to that office and pays 950 Baht (I seem to remember). They will therefore fill in a new TM6 for you that you will need upon your return.
Then you go through immigration with your passport and you get a “Departure” stamp.
You continue and you have to wait there for a while. (Those people at the office will tell you where)
The man at that office will then take your passport and if there are enough people you will leave by car to the Htee Kee immigration office. The ride takes about 5 minutes. There the man will go to the immigration office with your passport. In the meantime, you can wait in the car or walk around the market. After about 5 minutes the man returns with your stamped passport (in/out Myanmar stamp). You will then get your passport back and he will drive back to the Thailand immigration post. You go through immigration with your passport and you will then receive your new period of residence. 90 days in your case. Take the bus and return to Kanchanaburi. Don't know the bus hours, but I thought there is a bus back to Kanchanaburi every hour.

From Hua Hin there are also visa offices that drive directly to Phu Nam Ron, I thought. You should ask locally. You don't have to go to Kanchanaburi first.

You should also do a Google search with “Borderun Phu Nam Ron”. You can read enough stories of “border runners” who use Phu Nam Ron.

“You go to that office and pay 950 Baht (as I recall). They will also fill in a new TM6 – Arrival/Departure card for you, which you will need upon your return.
Then you go through immigration with your passport and you get a “Departure” stamp.”
