Dear Ronnie,

I have a non-immigrant retirement visa, so I need to have an amount of 800.000 Baht in my bank when applying for my new visa.

Now I want to open an account with this amount in this account, then I have this amount in the bank all year round and I don't have to worry about this account and I want to lock the account, then I get more interest.

Is this a problem with Immigration? They can very quickly see what happened to the money in this account in the past year and the other account no longer has to be presented to the immigration service.

Regards,

Sjaak

Dear Jack,

In the official rules one only speaks of “….the alien must have fund deposited in a bank in Thailand”. That is it. It is not written anywhere which accounts that may or must be. So it is the local immigration office that will determine that.

Most immigration offices do accept different types of bills. These can be current and savings accounts, or even an FCD. As long as the money is in an account in Thailand

However, for some immigration offices that is not always enough. For example, some also want to see what you live on. If you use a current account, the necessary movements will be visible there. If you use an account where the amount is fixed, then in addition to that account, people may also want to see an account that shows movements.

Again, the best advice is to contact your local immigration office and ask them the question.

For your information. You have a period of residence and you are going to request a (new) year extension of that period of residence. So you are not going to ask for a new visa.
