Dear Ronnie,

I have gone through your newsletters but can't find a real solution because of my complicated travel route. Do you have a solution for me? I'm going to Asia from Oct 17, 2019 to April 5, 2020. Arrival and departure: Brussels-Bangkok. I always visit other countries, but always come and leave in Thailand. In the past I always took a TR Multiple for half a year and first stayed in Thailand for a few months. Now I foresee it differently.

Itinerary would now be (total approx. 5 months):

1) Arrival Bkk/Thailand (3 weeks stay).
2) Flight and travel Malaysia (1 month stay)
3) Return to Bangkok/Thailand to celebrate New Year (2 weeks).
4) Flight and travel to Indonesia (3 weeks or more).
5 Back Bangkok (2 weeks)
6) Flight and travel Cambodia (3 weeks).
7 Flight Bangkok (Last weeks in Thailand).

So in total I have 4 entries in Thailand. I do that each time to rest in Thailand… since one could say: Why don't you go from Malaysia to Indonesia and from there to Cambodia.

Incidentally, I am not ready for my test piece in these matters. But as said above I took a TR Multiple. I wanted to know if I could do it without that visa.

Regards,

Alphonse

Dear Alphonse,

In principle, any period in Thailand could be on “Visa Exemption” since it is always less than 30 days. In that case, a visa is not necessary.

Of course I don't know how immigration will react to 4 entries in roughly 4 months. The first two/three entries will probably go smoothly, but you might get questions on the 4th. Don Muang in particular is strict in that area, I sometimes read.

So I would take the following into account every time you leave / enter Thailand.

– Make sure you always have an exit ticket in your possession that proves that you intend to leave Thailand within 30 days. Even when leaving Brussels.

– That you are in possession of 20 000 Baht (or equivalent amount in any currency).

– A residence address in Thailand if you already have one.

– Any proof of your tour can also help if you get questions. (Photos, tickets, etc.. )

But maybe they don't ask and they just let you pass without question. Mainly because they are not “Back-to-Back” entries.

Safe journey.

Read this related to “Visa Exemption” too.
