Dear editors,

I have the following problem! Last July I turned 50, that's why I thought to apply for a Non immigrant O visa. I was told I could do this in Savannahket, Laos.

The papers I would need for that were, I was told:

  • Income statement Dutch embassy 800.000 Bath on an annual basis.
  • Thai bank account.
  • Proof of habitation in Thailand.

Now I have all this. I even brought my green book of my motorcycle incl. insurance papers for my motorcycle. All this in my name, of course.

I go to the Thai consulate in Savannahket where I am told that I must provide proof that I am indeed retired.
I had never heard of this. And of course I don't have such proof because obviously I can't be retired yet. After all, I just turned 50.

Who oh who can provide my information on how to obtain a non o visa based on retirement?

Additional information:

  • Am unmarried
  • WAO 80-100%

Yours faithfully,

David

Dear David,

I personally have no experience with the Consulate of Savannakhet, but I have checked with Thai Visa's neighbors for you. It is also the first time for me that I read that someone has to prove that he is actually retired, because normally a minimum age of 50 years is the only requirement.

Another person who has introduced a local rule and wants to show how important he is? But also on ThaiVisa it is written that people are difficult in Savannakhet. A Non-immigrant “O” based on “Retirement” would regularly be refused.
I don't know why either. It is advised to go to Vientiane and apply for a Non-Immigrant “O” Single entry there. You can then extend this after 90 days in Thailand.

As for your financial proof. The income statement from the embassy concerns a minimum income of 65 Baht per month.
A bank account is 800 000 Baht. Request proof from your bank. Tell the bank that the proof is for your visa, then they usually know what to give.

Keep in mind that you may not receive that proof immediately, but that they have to contact the head office for this.
The bank book must be up-to-date, but a bank book alone is normally not sufficient, you must also have that bank receipt.

I don't know which visa you have now and how you stayed here until now, but you can also have a Tourist visa converted to a Non-immigrant "O" and then have it extended for a year. Not all immigration offices do this, and some will send you to Bangkok. Pattaya (Jomtien) normally does. You must still have a minimum stay of 15 days, because you will first receive a 15 days ''”Under consideration” stamp. If they send you to Bangkok then you will have to go twice or stay in Bangkok for 2 days.

Proof of pension is not required. Proof of regular income or the famous 800,000 bath on your account or a combination thereof.

you are not actually retired, you have disability insurance, you can also call that a disabled pension, there is medical retirement, you have all the documents, your decision of the uwv and the benefit specification, that is all sufficient in my opinion and you must top up the bank to a total of 800.000 bath. So if you have a benefit of 1200 euros times 12 and that does not reach the 800.000 bath, then put the rest on your booklet, and I believe it should be on it for 3 months
