Questioner: Walter

We will (hopefully) go to Thailand in November 2020 for at least 3 months. I have checked on the website of the consulate in Antwerp which visas are eligible for this. But sorry, I can't find the trees in the forest. Probably due to my age (70 years).

Can someone explain to me in understandable language which visa I should take for a stay of 3 months in Thailand. My wife is originally Thai, but has both nationalities with IK. So I think a visa is not necessary for her. Or am I wrong? Please your vision. Thank you. Do you also give the price for this?

1. If your wife has Thai nationality, a visa is not necessary for her. Make sure she can prove her nationality, of course.

2. You do need a visa for yourself. What you need is a Non-immigrant O visa.

Upon entry you will receive a stay of 90 days. Residence periods are always expressed in days, not months. You can obtain this visa on the basis of your Thai marriage.

For this you must be able to prove that you are married to a Thai. This is possible with the Khor Ror 2 and 3. Usually the Kor Ror 3 suffices, that is the one with the beautiful drawing on it. Make sure you also have the translation of it. You can prove that you were once married to a Thai, but you will also have to prove that you are still married. You can do this by requesting an extract from the family composition at the town hall.

3. You now have the choice between a Non-immigrant O Single entry or Multiple entry.

a. A Non-immigrant O Single entry is good for 1 entry. You then obtain a residence period of 90 days. The visa has a validity period (period in which you can use the visa for entry) of 3 months. Costs 80 Euro in Belgium.

You also need what is on the website of the consulate

Requirements:

– 2 Original completed applications Application Form exclusively from OUR website

– 3 passport photos (not older than 6 months)

– Valid passport (travel pass): minimum 6 months after return

– Copy recto verso of ID Card (for all other EU nationals or world citizens: copy of passport + ID card)

– Copy of plane ticket (round trip)

– Copy of booking hotel, guesthouse first night(s)…. OR declaration of full residence address in Thailand and/or confirmation of invitation by host in Thailand

– Proof of income (one recent payslip, pension slip, benefit…)

– Recent extract min. 1500€ on an account (! Attention: the accounts must be in the name of the applicant)

b. A Non-immigrant O Multiple entry is good for multiple entries. With each entry you will receive a stay of 90 days. Especially suitable if you go to Thailand several times or possibly want to stay longer than 90 days. By making a “border run” you can then obtain a new stay period of 90 days. The visa has a validity period (period in which you can use the visa) of 1 year. Costs 170 Euro in Belgium.

4. That's how it is all on the website and I just took it over, but those websites are not always kept up to date, or people demand extra things, especially during this Corona period. If Belgians were to be admitted in November, it could well be that additional requirements were set, such as insurance or a health certificate.

Therefore, please also contact the consulate. My past experience is that you always get an answer Tel: +32-(0)495-22.99.00 e-mail:[email protected].

5. Also take a look at the website of the Thai Embassy in Brussels

https://www.thaiembassy.be/visa/

under “Non-immigrant Visa ͞O͟ (Spouse/Family)Visa for people who are married with a Thai”

6. It remains that if you want to stay longer than 90 days and you do not want to perform “border runs”, you can also request a one-off extension of 60 days (only married to a Thai person can do this) or a year extension of your stay. Of course you have to meet the requirements. In that case it is also not necessary to apply for a Non-immigrant O Multiple entry. A single entry is then sufficient. May require some explanation when applying for your flight ticket and the return date that is later than 90 days after departure.

Please note that the amounts (€80 for single entry, or €170 for multiple entry) may change. The amount payable varies with the THB-EURO exchange rates. I experienced this last year when obtaining our visas in Berchem-Antwerp.

After a while, prices are indeed sometimes revised and adjusted, but this usually takes some time. Since last year, after the last adjustment, you no longer pay the same price for your visas in the Netherlands and Belgium. Strange that the prices are adjusted at the same time, but that the same amount is not charged in Euro, because the Thai price of visas has remained unchanged for years.

Last year, after the last adjustment in the Netherlands and Belgium, a TB Immigration Info Brief was published.
