Questioner: Josi

I have a question regarding an annual extension. I now prove 800.000 baht in a Thai account through the bank, but next time I want to switch this to monthly payments of my pension when I extend it. how does this actually happen?

It is to say how should this be passed on to immigration? Do I have to request this document from the pension service of monthly deposits, or is it sufficient via a bank statement?

First, you should check whether your immigration office accepts monthly deposits. There are immigration offices that only accept this from countries where the embassy no longer issues Affidavit. These include the USA, UK, Australia, which have stopped this since 2018. To give those foreigners the opportunity to use an income, they are allowed to use those monthly deposits. Other immigration offices then accept it from everyone, but then sometimes also want to see an Affidavit / Visa support letter. For others, only the Affidavit/Visa Support Letter will suffice and you do not have to prove those deposits effectively

The prescribed procedure when you start using monthly deposits are as follows:

  • When you switch methods and use deposits, as in your case, you must provide proof that you have deposited an amount monthly in the last 12 months, from abroad and around the same time. That amount must be at least 65 Baht.
  • When it is your first renewal, proof of 2 deposits is sufficient. In that case, you will only be in Thailand for your first 90 days, of course.

Proof of where money comes from can always be requested. Even if someone has an Affidavit / Visa support letter, one can ask for proof of where that money originally came from. Proof of pension or other income. Happens rather rarely but can.

The official rules regarding the use of monthly deposits can be found here. You just have to look it up.

Amendment to police order 138/2557 Revising clauses 2.18 and 2.22 to include options for proof of income

But every immigration office has its own rules and they can deviate from them. As usual. What applies in one may be different in another immigration office. The best advice I can give you is to go to your immigration office and ask what they want to see regarding deposits. If it turns out that you also need an Affidavit or Visa Support Letter or that this is sufficient, you can still request one. So don't wait until the last minute.
