Questioner: Bart

I am a 68 year old retired man. I want to go to Thailand and visit my girlfriend for 3 months. I would need a non immigrant O visa. But when I look online I see visiting or staying with applicant's family resisted in thailand(more as 60 days)? Need ID card or passport copy from girlfriend? proof of relationship to a family in Thailand, what should that be an invitation letter?

So what is needed for non immigrant O visa?

I think you are looking at the wrong list. A girlfriend is not officially related. To qualify as a family, there must be an official connection. She's not there with a girlfriend. That is why, in the case of family, one also asks:

“Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand eg marriage certificate, birth certificate, adoption certificate”'

Of course, that doesn't mean that you can't stay with your girlfriend or that she can't invite you.

In your case you have to:

– CATEGORY 1 : Tourism and recreation related visit

4. Longer stay for retired persons (pensioner aged 50 or above)

VISA TYPE: Non-immigrant O (retirement) Visa (90 days)

– There you will find:

“Proof of accommodation in Thailand eg accommodation booking, invitation letter from family/friends in Thailand, etc.”

Your girlfriend must then declare in an invitation letter that she invites you and that you will stay at her address. She has to sign it and send a copy of her ID that proves she is Thai and lives in Thailand.

You can find such an example of an invitation letter on the website of the Thai Embassy in Brussels. Example-of-Invitation-Letter.pdf (thaiembassy.be) I do not immediately find this in the one in The Hague.

Pay attention because this letter in Thai is from the Belgian embassy and is therefore addressed to the Belgian embassy. You then have to replace Brussels with The Hague and Belgian with Dutch

This is roughly the translation of what is now in Thai, but I suppose it will be accepted in English as well.

Dear Consul, Royal Thai Embassy in Brussels

I, ma'am……. Identification number …………… confirms that Mister ……….. with Belgian nationality will travel to Thailand and stay with me at the address ….

From…….until …………

-Pay attention because I see that they now also require proof of insurance for your visa application. Apparently the old conditions apply again for this. Please note this is separate from the Thai Pass insurance requirement…..

“Health Insurance statement confirming coverage for the entire intended period of stay in Thailand which explicitly mention:

Outpatient benefit with a sum assured nothing than 40,000 THB or 1,300 EUR, and

Inpatient benefit with a sum assured of not less than 400,000 THB or 13,000 EUR”

– Financial evidence eg bank statement, proof of earnings, sponsorship letter

According to the latest data, this will have to be 90 x 3 Euro for 1000 days or the sum of at least 3000 Euro on your bank account.
