Questioner: Leendert

I elaborate on the question Thailand Visa question WR183/22 “5 months to Thailand”. We are in “the same boat”. Only the following applies to us.

I have been married for years (in the Netherlands) to a Thai who lives with me in the Netherlands. We have a house in Thailand, of course in the name of the woman. My age is 64 years. Is there no possibility on the basis of this information to obtain a visa of 5 to 6 months through the Thai embassy?

I await your response with interest.

No, as a married person you can only get a Non-immigrant O Thai Marriage in the embassy and with that you only get 90 days upon entry.

If you have a Multiple entry, you can make a “border run” that will give you another 90 days.

Since you are married, there is the possibility to extend your 90 days once by 60 days. Actually, the goal is to visit your wife/child, but I understand that this is not strictly enforced and every married person can get those 60 days. You have to make sure that your marriage is registered in Thailand of course.

And if you regularly go to Thailand for 5 months, why not suddenly ask for a year extension as Thai Marriage or even as Retired in Thailand. You must of course meet certain conditions, especially financial, in Thailand.

In the future, you only have to take a Re-entry before you leave Thailand and make sure that you are in Thailand to renew annually. The advantage is that you never have to apply for a visa again and you can stay as long as you want.

Also as a Thai Marriage you will of course have to ensure that your marriage is registered in Thailand.
