Thailand Visa Question No. 032/21: Health Insurance

Health insurance for Thailand visa. The requirement for a CoE states:
English-language statement of health insurance with coverage in Thailand for a minimum of USD 100.000 including coverage for COVID-19 medical expenses. This amount, as well as COVID-19 coverage, must be explicitly stated in the statement.

Then if you want a Non Immigrant O visa, it says:
A copy of the supplementary health insurance policy covering the length of stay in Thailand with coverage of not less than THB 40.000 for outpatient treatments and not less than THB 400.000 for inpatient treatments.

According to VisaPlus, which always arranges the visa for me, you need 2 insurance policies. But when I have the first statement, the second one is automatically covered by it, right?

Can someone who has already traveled to Thailand tell me exactly how it is, because I can no longer see the wood for the trees.

The $100 insurance requirement is for obtaining a CoE. The 000 40/000 400 Baht out/inpatient insurance requirement is for obtaining the visa (O only Retired, OA, OX, and STV).

It now depends on your insurance what they all comply with.

– There are 100 000 Dollar COVID 19 insurance policies that are specially made for this. They only cover COVID-19 related conditions and nothing else. You can find them here Home – Covid 19 Insurance (tgia.org)

– There are those that cover 40 000/400 000 Baht out/inpatient but for which the 100 000 Dollar requirement is too high. You can find such here Home – Health Insurance for Long Stay Visa in Thailand (tgia.org)

– But there are also those that cover both. The problem is usually to obtain a statement from the insurer where this is explicitly stated and/or whether the statement of the insurance is accepted.

But is just my opinion and I was already in Thailand. I leave it to those who have already traveled to Thailand.

I took out insurance from AA Insure in Pattaya, you get a 40.000-400.000 and a covid 19 statement, it is an insurance and, in terms of price, it was less than 128 euros for three months (my age is 65). .

I have been in contact with Benny and I was helped correctly and quickly by him.

Dear Enoch, how can I reach Benny, do you have an email address for Benny. please. For the moment I'm still staying in Belgium and I want to get everything in order for traveling back to Thailand after getting the 2 vaccines (I'm 65 +). July/August/September.??. I assume that insurance will still be required to obtain a Visa Non Immigrant O. from the Thai Embassy in Brussels. Thank you in advance.

When I read the response I think again: the most important thing is not mentioned. Because where is the mention of 100,000 USD? You also get a statement from all health insurers in the Netherlands, free of charge and for nothing, but the statement of 100.000, which the Thai government demands and strictly checks upon arrival in Thailand, is not issued in the Netherlands.

      • PEER says up

        Dear Ger Korat,
When you google a bit, you will read several times that those 100000 USD must be explicitly stated!
So the statement you are talking about does not apply to enter Thailand, and you must also have the statement from the in-out patient, ie 40000 and 400000 th bth.

        • Ger Korat says up

Yes, dear Peer, I am writing that, because I miss the mention of 100.000 USD in the response (from Enoch). Enoch does not mention this amount anywhere while the Thai authorities want to see this stated on the insurance statement.

I entered Thailand without any problems on such a statement in mid-December, but that may have changed again in the meantime, I realize.

I have taken out health insurance from Oom and it meets the requirements set by Thailand. Shows overall coverage of $100.000 including Covid 19 coverage and outpatient coverage of 40.000 Bath. If desired, they make a tailor-made insurance policy. Recommendable.!!!!

    • Strong says up

How much does that cost Jack? For 90 days?

I thought I could also arrange that there but was refused due to diabetes.
Benny did help me. And professionally too!

At AA insurance you have all inclusive solutions that are cheaper than the TGIA Covid plan that also only covers Covid. No accidents or other illnesses http://www.AAInsure.net

Is now just quarantined in Bkk. am insured year after year with europ assistance. Costs about 150€.
Is valid for the Belgian embassy, by the way, I received a confirmation by email.
And after telephone contact with europ assistance, they immediately emailed the correct papers plus the approval of the Thai embassy.
5 min work and immigration no problem
    Succes

    • Jm says up

      150 euros for 1 year?

    • walter says up

Jaume jb, thanks for this info. I've had the same insurance for years.
Does that insurance only cover the 100.000 USD Covid needed for the CoE or also the 40.000/400.000 THB needed for a non-immigrant OA or O-retired visa. Which visa did you apply for in Brussels?

    • fred says up

With Europ Assistance you can only stay abroad for a limited period of time. For 150 euros you are never insured for a whole year. That sat
What the Belgian embassy has to do with your travel insurance is a mystery to me.
      I find the rest that Europ Assistance would email papers plus an approval from the Thai embassy even more confusing;

      • fred says up

You are probably only insured abroad for 3 consecutive months. If you stay longer, you will have to pay about 150 euros extra per month.

  5. Benny says up

At http://www.AAInsure.net insurance with more than 100.000 USD cover 400.000 THB inpatient and 40.000 THB outpatient cover worse delivered with certificates approved by the various embassies for 120 Euro for 3 months for example. [email protected]

  6. Freddy Van Tricht says up

According to info on various websites, if holder of a workpermit, only a letter from the relevant company needs to be submitted: ” Medical insurance or letter from employer guaranteeing that the insurance company or employer will cover a minimum of 100,000 US dollars (or equivalent in other currencies) of medical costs incurred by the applicant in Thailand, including medical costs in the event that applicant contracts COVID-19.”

    • RonnyLatYa says up

Yes, if you have a work permit and because your employer is then also responsible for your medical costs.

I can only tell you what I showed when I went back to Thailand in December 2020. The International Health Insurance, which I have had for years with a non-Dutch company, has issued a statement in English stating the maximum insured amounts that are well above the amounts required by the Thai Government. However, it did not explicitly state that COVID was covered. When applying for the COE (at the Thai Embassy in The Hague), I uploaded a copy of an email from the insurer stating that there were no restrictions on the reimbursement of COVID Healthcare costs. This was accepted without question.
I entered Thailand on a re-entry permit from my NON-O (Retirement) Visa. After the quarantine period, I successfully extended the validity period of my Retirement Visa without showing insurance.

    • Rick says up

Dear Ton, with which International Health Insurance Non-Dutch Company are you insured?
      Thanks in advance.

      • Ton says up

        Hi Rick,
Give me a contact option and I'll let you know.

I myself entered Thailand on December 16th on a tourist visa, did not have to submit a separate proof of insurance and a statement from OHRA attn. being insured was accepted, with OHRA not stating insured amounts in the statement. I now have a non-immigrant O visa, applied for in Thailand. No proof of insurance had to be submitted for this either. I am now busy taking out insurance, for my own peace of mind, and because I suspect that proof of insurance must be submitted when extending my visa.

  9. Rob says up

Don't you get sick of corona, you will get it from all those rules.

I am waiting for the vaccination with proof of vaccination.
Then see if we can enter Thailand without quarantine.
But if it continues like this, we can be happy if it is in order before December.

    It remains to be seen.

    Happy Valentine ❤️❤️❤️❤️
