Thailand visa question No. 032/20: Visa Exemption
Questioner: Stefan
Subject: Visa Exemption
I am planning to go to Thailand via Vietnam. I fly from Amsterdam to Hanoi and from Bangkok back to Amsterdam. For Vietnam I need a Visa. I will arrange this in advance.
I am flying from Hanoi to Bangkok. In total I will stay 20 days in Vietnam and 12 days in Thailand.
Can I enter from Vietnam and Thailand with a Visa On Arrival?
Reaction RonnyLatYa
- It is not a “Visa on Arrival”, but a “Visa Exemption” (visa exemption) of 30 days that you receive when you want to enter Thailand without a visa.
- When you enter Thailand via a border post overland, the entries are limited to 2 entries per calendar year. In principle, there are no restrictions via an airport.
Regards,
RonnyLatYa
Assuming you have a return trip and will therefore fly back the same way, so with VN-air (incidentally a somewhat strange route, because it is often via HCMC = Saigon) and also do the ENTIRE journey with them, so not because of the cheapness with AirAsia or VietJet flies to/from BKK, then you do not need a visa for UN again, provided you do not leave the airport - if this is not the case, then you do!!
Visa for VN can also be arranged online in advance - at least you have to arrange something in advance, but online with the actual collection at the airport is usually the easiest and cheapest.
An aside for the much appreciated Ronny - you often write in antw. without reaction possible - inquire with the airline. This is often completely useless. This kind of information is in the so-called TimAtic, which previously had every travel agency and every airline will simply read what it says regarding visas, etc. - if they answer at all. That says nothing about how things will go at check-in, because an airline does not do that itself - separate desks are hired for that. It is even possible that you can still be refused for flight 2 during a transfer/transit in very strange cases - although that is very rare. (previously worked in this branch).
pay attention to this, you write a confusing story, especially since the TS writes to fly from Bangkok to Amsterdam.
Inquiring with the airline is definitely useful, if they answer you have their interpretation, can help with check-in. And TimAtic is also used during check-in.
RonnyLatYa,
I admire your responses to all of the often-same questions and your composed responses to often very misnomers of the various Visa forms.
Stefan
Currently reside in Thailand. Fly to Hanoi on February 26. As for the visa for Vietnam.
On Google, go to Friendlytravel. They are in Hanoi. Is a travel agency of a Dutchman with his Vietnamese husband. For 6 € they arrange your invitation letter and send it by email as well as the necessary forms that you have to fill in and the explanation. With these forms, 2 passport photos and 25 usd you go to immigration upon arrival and you get your visa. You will then obtain a visa for one month. You can write them in Dutch. Hopefully this explanation will help Viernam.
Pleasant holiday
And then you land in Vietnam and you have to pay. I showed the documents with proof of payment. The amount paid was for forwarding the documents. Is a corrupt mess. Go directly to the embassy!
Since the introduction of the e-visa for Vietnam, you no longer need Friendlytravel and similar agencies and you can arrange the visa online. On arrival you do not have to stand in line with your visa issued by such an agency for a 'visa on arrival'.
I forgot to put the link to the relevant government website: https://www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/
