Questioner: Perry

My name is Perry and I have been together with my Thai wife Dao for 21 years now. After my long vacation, she came to NL in 2001 and 6 years ago we got married in NL and for Buddha in Thailand. However, 3 years ago I was affected by a cerebral infarction and a year ago I was declared fully incapacitated for work by the UWV and have been receiving an IVA benefit ever since. With this benefit I can also go to Thailand to hibernate for 6 to 7 months. So now we want to take this step in October of this year (hopefully possible without Covid vicissitudes).

Here is my question: I first want to apply for a tourist visa in NL and then extend it in Thailand for 90 days and then apply for a Marriage Visa for one year. I understood that, among other things, I have to legalize my marriage certificate in The Hague or in Bangkok and have to prove 400.000 baht via a Thai account (which I have).

More pieces will probably be needed and what else I might need to know? I hope you can provide me with information on this.

Thanks in advance !

1. You can also apply for a Non-immigrant O Thai Marriage before you leave. Then you already have your 90 days upon entry and you can extend them in Thailand for a year based on Thai Marriage.

E-Visa Categories, Fee and Required Documents – สถานเอกอัครราชทูตณ กรุงเฮก (thaiembassy.org)

2. To obtain an extension as a Thai Marriage in Thailand, your marriage must also be registered in Thailand. For this you will have to provide proof of marriage that has been translated and legalized and then have it registered at your town hall in Thailand.

3. You can leave on a Tourist basis, of course, but then you will first have to convert it to a Non-immigrant O in Thailand (I think you mean by extending it for 90 days). So why not immediately apply for a Non-immigrant O before departure? If you still want to do the conversion to Non-immigrant O in Thailand, you can read what you need here

Costs 2000 Baht that conversion, but your marriage will first have to be registered in Thailand.

You can also ask at your immigration office if there are any additional requirements

4. To subsequently obtain a year extension as a Thai Marriage, you need the following as standard.

– Application form TM 7, completed and signed.

- Passport photograph

– 1900 Baht

– Passport and copy of all passport page

– Copy TM6

– Copy TM30 report

– Bank letters and bank book and update thereof

– Kor Ror 2 2– Marriage Registration.

– My wife's Thai ID

- Tabien Baan

– Drawing of a well-known reference point to your home.

– 6 photos of in and around your home that show you and your wife and at least 1 with the house number.

– Documents for acquainting yourself with “Overstay” and what to do if the circumstances under which my extension is granted should change. (get you there)

It is also best to visit your immigration office in advance and they usually have a list of what they want to see, such as a possible witness with the application and other local rules may apply.
