Questioner: Bram

I have a visa question about the Baht 500.000 that you had to have in a Thai bank account for 6 months for an STV visa.
My question is concretely whether in my situation, as a Dutch resident in the Netherlands, it is useful to be able to demonstrate with a visa application that I have an account in Thailand with Baht 500.000?

At the moment I still meet that requirement, but due to a number of automatic transfers that I have monthly to my girlfriend, I will drop below that limit next month. I can of course top up the bill, but if it serves no purpose I prefer not to.

I always had a Non-immigrant O visa with multiple entry. I meet the conditions for this visa. Among other things, sufficient resources and pension income in the Netherlands. I feel that the account I have in Thailand does not add anything to a visa application. So my question is whether this idea is correct, or whether it is wiser to keep the balance in Thailand above 500.000 Baht, as an extra argument for possible admission?

I will answer it more generally because it actually applies to every visa.

The amounts quoted to meet the financial requirements of any visa are usually reference amounts in Baht. You may pay this in the currency of your country of residence, which in this case is the equivalent in euros. But if you own it, you can of course always prove it with a Thai bank account.

By the way, keep in mind that the STV is only a temporary visa. You can currently only apply for it and stay with it until the end of September 2021.

“The maximum stay in total, therefore, shall NOT exceed 270 days including the quarantine period and shall NOT exceed 30 September 2021 which is the current end date of the STV scheme.”

“The extension of stay (up to 2 times with the maximum of 90 days per each extension but will not exceed 30 September 2021) is solely at the discretion of the Immigration Bureau.”
