Subject: 90 days notice

My best wishes for 2020! Now I'm not with you anymore. Did a 2019 day notification online in October 90 and I think that was correct following the previous extension. I had then received an extension until 04/01/2020. Last year on 22/12/2019 I again do a 90-day report online and the day after I already received the approval with the accompanying links to print.

Today I notice that on my new paper it is stated that I can stay from 23/12/2019 until 21/03/2020. That period is correct in itself, but I now lose 12 days from my previous period. Is that normal or are they mistaken?

A 90 day address notification is what it says. A notification of your address. Nothing more, nothing less. A 90 day notification NEVER gives you the right to stay in Thailand and it certainly is not an extension. Only the period of stay, which immigration stamps in your passport, entitles you to stay in Thailand until a certain date. Nothing else.

So you don't lose 12 days like in your case. You only made the report 12 days earlier. That in itself has little meaning, because it has no influence on your period of stay.

So you have to report your address every 90 days of continuous stay in Thailand. This can be done in different ways and depending on which way you use, this must be done within a certain period. Normally you would expect that the next report should be made 90 days after the previous 90 days, but usually 90 days will be added from the day the report is handled.

That new date on that piece of paper is then just to remind you when the next 90 days are up. NEVER does that give you the right to stay in Thailand until that date.

To summarize again.

– A 90 days NEVER gives you a right of residence. It is only an address report. The date on that note is for reference only and as a reminder when the next 90 days are up and when you should then make the next address report. That's all the date on that piece of paper means.

– The duration that you can stay in Thailand has been placed in your passport by immigration. That is the only thing that is valid for the period of stay. Nothing else.
