Dear editors,

On January 25 I leave for Thailand (Bangkok) to travel around SE Asia for three months. I start in Thailand and end in Thailand.

This means I would need a visa for 90 days (60+30 extension). After the first 20 to 25 days I want to travel to Laos. This would mean that I only need a 30-day visa for my first time in Thailand. This is called a Visa on arrival if I am correct.

When I return to Thailand after the transit, I will receive another Visa on arrival. The point is that my arrival and departure data from Thailand indicate that I stay for 90 days, but that I actually stay 2x a maximum of 30 days. This in connection with the transit.

I wonder now, which visa do I need? Of course I do not want to be sent back to Thailand, because my visa does not match arrival and departure data.

Thanks in advance,

best regards,

Dylan

Dear Dylan,

For your first period, you enter Thailand via the airport, and you will receive a 30-day “Visa Exemption”. Sufficient for your first period.

For your second period, it depends on how you come back to Thailand. If you come via the airport, you will again receive a 30-day “Visa Exemption”. Sufficient for your second 30-day period. If you return to Thailand via a border post, you will only receive a 15-day “Visa Exemption”, but you can have it extended by 30 days at immigration. Costs 1900 baht.

In principle, you do not need a visa, but your airline may require proof upon departure that you will leave Thailand within 30 days, because you are traveling without a visa. First ask your airline if they require such proof upon departure (preferably do this by email so that you have proof) and which proofs they all accept. Some airlines require proof, others do not, but it is best to ask in good time so that there is no discussion at check-in.

I have no idea what you actually mean by 90 days arrival data? It is not because your arrival / departure from / to the Netherlands, from Thailand that you have to stay in Thailand all the time in between
