Dear editors,

I recently got married to a Filipino and we live in both Thailand and the Philippines. I myself have a retirement visa which I extend annually and with a re-entry permit I can enter and leave Thailand. The same applies when I arrive in the Philippines with my wife, I receive an annual visa for myself without any problem.

Now my question is, if I enter Thailand with my wife, she will get 30 days. Can my wife also go to Thailand on my retirement visa and what do I have to do at immigration?

Thanks in advance.

Fred

Dear Fred,

It is not possible to come along on your “Retirement visa”. A visa or extension is personal.

As far as I know there are no other rules that apply to Philippines other than the known ones that also apply to you. So if she wants a “Retirement visa”, she will have to meet the same conditions as those you have had to meet. You now know what they are, given that you have a “Retirement visa” yourself.

You don't say her age, but if she doesn't meet the minimum age for a “Retirement Visa” she can, through her marriage to you, apply for a Non-Immigrant “O” Multiple Entry at the Embassy. Proof of that marriage will of course be requested with the application. She will then have to carry out a visa run (border run) every 90 days if you would like to stay in Thailand for a longer period of time.
