Dear editors,

When inquiring about a Myanmar visa at the embassy in Belgium, and an e-visa, we are always told that you have to apply for a visa for 28 days, costs almost 70 euros.pp

But we go with a non immigrant O visa M, to Thailand and before the 90 days are up to Myanmar border post Thassilec Myanmar, and then get a stamp for 90 days, costs 1000 baht for 2 people.

The doubt arises whether this is still possible? You still have a problem when you're standing there and the rules have changed, especially because you don't speak the language either.

Can you clarify this, and can we just stamp in Myanmar as we have been doing for years, pay 1000 baht and go back to the Thai border post, with another 90 day extension,

Thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Sonya and Hank

Dear Sonja and Henk,

As far as I know, with a Non-immigrant “O” Multiple entry, you can still make a “border run” in Mae Sai.
Still costs 500 Baht pp I thought.

BUT recently there have been some changes. For example, since last month you can no longer make a “border run” in Phu Nam Ron if you do not have a Myanmar Visa.

It is therefore quite possible that something has recently changed in Mae Sai, and that they now also ask for a Myanmar visa to make your “border run”. However, I can't say that for sure.

Perhaps there are readers who have had recent experience with Mae Sai?

I made another borderline to Myanmar 2 weeks ago. Don't know the exact name of the place, but about 60 km west Kanchanaburi.
Border had just reopened after the bomb attacks.

Phu nam ron is located 60 km west of Kanchanaburi.
Since last month, border runs without Myanmar visas are no longer possible there.
At least there are plenty of reports on that on various Visa forums.

I am therefore surprised that you were able to perform a border run 14 days ago.
It concerns border runs with border pass, so without Myanmar visa.
With Myanmar visa it is no problem of course.

My message says borderline. Must be border run of course.

    Hello Sonja and Hank,

According to my information obtained from Thai border officials, Myanmar has changed the rules so that a "border run" is no longer possible.
I heard this at Phu Nam Ron.
So I assume that this applies to all border crossings of Thailand and Myanmar.
    So also with Mae Sai.

I went to the border crossing on Monday and inquired about the visa run.
According to the official, you can still make a visa run. However, you are only allowed to enter Mayanmar for 5 kilometers. If you go further, you need a visa.

    Dear Ronnie,

I had been to Mea Sai in August LL, had no problems.
Only difference with the time before, people now take your passport in Burma side and you get a card, which you exchange for your passport when you return.
Last time I could just keep it.

    Kind regards,
    Will
