Dear editors,

I am in the process of gathering information about the various documents I need for a Non-Immigrant OA. So far, so good, but now my bank falls over the word "Guarantee" in the following text from the Thai embassy regarding the Bank Statement:

  • A copy of bank statement showing a deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 800,000 Baht or an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht, or a deposit account plus a monthly income totaling not less than 800,000 Baht.
  • In the case of submitting a bank statement, a letter of guarantee from the bank (an original copy) is required.

Nothing was found in the Visa file about this passage and therefore I appreciate knowing from you what the “guarantee” of the bank statement should look like.

My thanks are great.

Regards,

Hanseman

Dear Hansman,

Since it concerns a Non-immigrant "OA", I suspect that you will submit the application in the Netherlands or Belgium, because you can only apply for a Non-immigrant OA in the country where you have the nationality or where you are officially registered .

Usually the bank amount (or income) will therefore be in Euro (+/- 20 000 Euro as the equivalent, but it is best to inquire about this at the embassy given the exchange rate). Baht is also accepted, but then the Thai bank statement may not be older than 1 month, which can sometimes be a problem.

As for that bank statement. You will not find a document anywhere how that statement should look like, but it must be an original document. Each bank can set this up however they want. The only thing they expect from your bank is that they declare that, on the date and time of signing that statement, you have a bank account with them and that there is xxx amount in that account at that time. That's all.

The bank thus only guarantees that there was an account with a certain amount on that day and at that time. They don't have to guarantee anything for the future because they can't. This statement must then be supplemented with a bank statement from your account, but you can make this yourself. They can then follow whether that account has existed for some time, whether the money has just been deposited, etc…

Your bank cannot prove the income, much less guarantee it. For this you will have to provide proof of payment from the service that pays your income. You can usually request it from the relevant service without any problems.
