Dear Rob/Editor,

I would like to bring my girlfriend to the Netherlands in June for 90 days later. Last year was after her Schengen visa was granted 2 days earlier.

Due to Corona, the borders of the Netherlands were closed. In the second half of 2, the borders were reopened under certain conditions and you could travel back into the Netherlands.

Now my question is, is it still open now or are the borders closed again and what are the conditions? Just like the previous times, I stand surety for my girlfriend who I haven't seen for a year now, except for video calls via WhatsApp.

Regards,

Ruud

Dear Ruud,

Yes, the Dutch border is (still) open to countries that have been labeled 'safe' by the Dutch government. Thailand is also included. At the moment, your girlfriend can therefore apply for a short-stay visa in Bangkok and travel to the Netherlands after the visa has been issued.

Keep in mind that the situation in both Thailand and the Netherlands can change. Without a crystal ball, it is impossible to say whether the borders for Thai will be closed again at a later date or whether certain requirements or restrictions will come into force (such as a Covid test or Covid rapid test, quarantine, etc.). So keep a close eye on the website of the national government. Also keep an eye on the social media of the embassy in Bangkok.
