Dear editor,

Despite the completeness of the Schengen visa file, thanks to Rob V., I still have a few questions. I am currently staying in Thailand until May 5 and would like to invite my Thai wife for a two-month vacation in the Netherlands. The intention is that she will come to the Netherlands at the end of June or the beginning of July. So I can still personally arrange the visa application.

Three years ago she was also 90 days, but then we were not married yet and she still had a more or less permanent job as a masseuse. The application was then no problem at all. Because she currently has no permanent job, documents proving real estate or other assets (car) in her name are highly desirable to make a timely return plausible. These documents: Chanot, house book and car registration are in Thai.

My question is: should I have it translated into English and possibly legalized? The marriage certificate has already been translated and legalized.
I want to make the request via VFS.

For the rest, the visa file provides sufficient information.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Harrie

Dear Harry,

Evidence in a language other than Dutch, English, German or French must indeed be translated. For official papers, it is best to have this done by an official translator. Legalization of the title deeds is not necessary.

Of course, her previous visit to Europe also counts as proof that she is a bona fide traveller. Together with your previous experience, you can probably guide her well with her application.

You can find up-to-date instructions (in English…) on the new website of the embassy, including a useful checklist: www.netherlandsandyou.nl/travel-and-residence/

Unfortunately, the site no longer states that it is best to start the procedure at least 4 weeks in advance to have enough time to visit the embassy or VFS and wait for the assessment yourself.

Success!

Regards,

Rob V
