Dear editors,

I want my Thai girlfriend to come to the Netherlands for a month on a tourist visa. Now I myself have state pension and a small pension, so I don't meet the income requirement of I thought gross € 1.488. So I ask a friend to provide a financial guarantee.

My question: what should my girlfriend provide to the Dutch embassy in BKK in terms of (financial) information about that friend?
I have two options:

  • a private person, is an income tax statement 2015 sufficient for that?
  • a friend who owns a contracting business. What does he have to submit, income tax returns are often behind, I understand?

Thanks for all the responses etc

Regards,

Do

Dear Will,

You indicate yourself that with your state pension and pension you do not meet the 100% statutory minimum wage (now until the middle of this year 1646,57 euros gross or 1524,60 euros gross without holiday money). Then there are two options:

  1. The foreign national guarantees himself with 34 euros per day of stay. It goes without saying that there should be no doubt that she has access to this money. For example, the money must be in her account and one should not think that she has borrowed it for a while (because, for example, a week before the application someone suddenly deposited thousands of euros….), then it is not really her money.
  2. Have someone guarantee. Unfortunately, this cannot be you if you do not meet the income requirement. A friend can take care of this. He will then have to prove his income, which is actually done in the same way as any other sponsor who acts as a guarantor: submit an employment contract and 3 recent pay slips. If your friend is an entrepreneur, it becomes more difficult: for example, a final/provisional assessment from the Tax Authorities, or a one-man business IB-60 if someone is self-employed. People will want to see that r has been enough profit to guarantee. I have little knowledge of acting as a guarantor as an entrepreneur, so it is best to contact the IND. The data will have to show that the sustainability and income requirements are met. Naturally, the 'guarantor' part of the 'guarantee and/or accommodation form' must also be completed.

I'm going to assume that the 34 euros a day is not an option for your girlfriend. Then you need to take the following steps:
1) Arrange the 'guarantee and/or accommodation form', which you can download from the forms/brochure page of the IND: www.ind.nl/documents/1310.pdf

After downloading you can print the form twice.
2) You fill in a form and indicate at question 3A that you provide accommodation. You don't guarantee.
3) Your friend fills in the second copy and indicates at question 3B that he acts as a guarantor.
4) Your friend arranges proof of his income (3 pay slips, employment contract or the aforementioned papers for an entrepreneur). The assessor of the visa application must be able to deduce from this that there is sufficient income and that this income is sustainable.
5) You and your friend go to the town hall, sign it in front of the official who legalizes the papers.
6) You send the forms and other evidence to your girlfriend. I would make a copy in case something gets lost. Or even better, make sure not only you but also your Thai girlfriend has a copy. If necessary, send it by e-mail so that she can print it out there, but simply submit the original with the application.

For advice on other fronts with the application, read the Schengen dossier:

Don't be fooled by the paperwork, read the brochures and forms carefully and take your time. If you still have a pointy head or doubts, please contact the IND or make an appointment to obtain further information at an IND desk.

Success!

Yours faithfully,

Rob V
