Questioner: Adam

I had another question about renewal. Can a Tourist Visa (SETV or METV) be extended at the local Immigration Service like in Chiang Mai or does one have to make a border run?

Reaction RonnyLatYa

With a SETV or METV you obtain a residence period of 60 days for one or more entries. Each of those 60 days can be extended once by 30 days.

This means that you can stay in Thailand for a maximum of 90 days (60+30). Then you have to go outside.

It is not possible to stay longer without a “border run” or you have to transfer to a Non-immigrant.
