Gasoline in Pattaya
Just like elsewhere Thailand Pattaya is teeming with motorbikes. A motorbike - we would say a moped or scooter - under the same name as a chopper - our word motorcycle - and you just need a driver's license for it.
It is a convenient means of transport, you hardly suffer from the busy traffic, you zoom past the long queues of cars everywhere. Of course you have to be careful because your fellow bikers drive in a somewhat strange way for us. Not immediately aggressive, but often hard and not disturbing to other road traffic. Motorbike taxis and pizza delivery companies are notorious culprits in this area.
Anyway, as a foreign tourist you can rent those motorbikes for a reasonable price, about 1000 Baht per week and as an expat you usually buy one. They don't use much petrol and if your tank is empty, you can get it completely filled again for about 100 Baht. There are enough gas stations in Pattaya, you never have to search for a long time.
But if there is no gas station nearby, don't worry, petrol is available 24 hours a day.
There are several repair shops for motorbikes that are always open and they have whole rows of whiskey bottles filled with petrol in a nice rack. Not only there, but also at many stands for motorbike taxis, you will find those racks with true Molotov cocktails. A bit more expensive than a gas station, of course, because you get a tiger of 40 liters in your tank for 50 to 0,7 Baht. Enough to get home and go to a regular gas station the next morning.
Why flammable?
And to think that in a remote village in Isan there are just a few pumps, where you can put money in to fill up 24 hours a day.
Convenience serves man... I think it's a godsend those bottles. I never fill up at a petrol station when I am in Pattaya and the surrounding area. At 45 meters from my permanent residence there has been a stand with the mentioned bottles for many years and I fill my tank there.
Not only in Pattaya. You can buy these bottles of gasoline everywhere and usually in Pop and Mom stores. Old as Sinkel's shop.
Here in the Deep South you can get that gas much cheaper out of the bottle. Reason: the petrol is imported from Malaysia, where petrol costs about half of that in Thailand.
