While we've covered the topic many times here, questions keep pouring in in the form of comments or reader questions about the $20.000 insurance requirement for the Thailand Pass QR Code, and especially where to get this insurance.

Please note: Reader questions or reactions with questions about the insurance requirement will no longer be posted as of today, because we believe that all questions have been answered. If not, you can of course comment below.

What requirements must a medical insurance policy for Thailand (Thailand Pass application) meet?
The medical insurance must have a minimum coverage of USD 20.000. And the insurance must cover the entire period of your stay in Thailand.

That $50.000 cover, is that per person?
Yes.

Does the statement have to specifically state that I am insured against Covid-19?
No, that doesn't have to be the case now.

What do I have to upload regarding the insurance for the Thailand Pass application?
An English-language statement or policy showing that you are insured for at least $20.000 for medical costs during your stay in Thailand.

I do have an English statement from my health insurer/travel insurer that I am insured for all medical costs, but there are no amounts on it?
Until now, stating the amount of $ 20.000 is mandatory, so you run the risk that your application will be rejected.

My Dutch travel insurer/health insurer would like to issue an insurance statement in English, but not mention any amounts, why not?
Health insurance or medical travel insurance is not sum insurance. The actual damage is paid out and usually this is unlimited.

But I already have full insurance for medical costs abroad, do I still have to take out insurance for my trip to Thailand in order to get that $ 20.000 statement?
Yes unfortunately it is.

Where can I purchase medical insurance with a minimum coverage of $20.000 for Thailand Pass?

Do expats who live in Thailand and go on vacation or travel to Europe also have to take out the $20.000 insurance policy to obtain a Thailand Pass?
No, they can use their current health insurance or the Thai health insurance fund (if they are covered). See here: https://www.thailandblog.nl/nieuws-uit-thailand/thailand-pass-medische-verzekering-niet-nodig-voor-expats-en-terugkerende-thai/

I am an expat and do not have health insurance, do I need to purchase the $20.000 insurance policy to obtain the Thailand Pass QR code?
Yes, that is mandatory.

I'm going to take out a $20.000 insurance policy, but I'm staying in Thailand for a long time?
In that case, an insurance with a duration of 30 days is sufficient.

Do Thai nationals traveling outside of Thailand also need to take out the $50.000 insurance policy to obtain a Thailand Pass?
No, not if they fall under the Thai health insurance fund. See here: https://www.thailandblog.nl/nieuws-uit-thailand/thailand-pass-medische-verzekering-niet-nodig-voor-expats-en-terugkerende-thai/
