editorsSeveral times a week the editors receive an e-mail from readers of Thailandblog why they have not received the newsletter, which is sent automatically every day.

That is why it is good to provide an explanation to that question. First of all Thailandblog is not a newsletter but a website (a blog). The newsletter is for convenience only. This is automatically generated based on the new articles on Thailandblog and sent once a day, usually at 1:11.00 AM Dutch time. So no chicken and the egg here. The articles first appear on the website and only then in the newsletter. Suppose there were no new articles to read on Thailandblog for a day, then there would be no newsletter.

So if you don't receive a newsletter (anymore), there's no need to panic. You can on your computer, laptop, iPad or phone, just www.thailandblog.nl type in and you will see all the new articles. If you do that after 10.00 a.m. Dutch time, almost all new articles will be neatly arranged there.

Of course the question remains why some readers no longer receive the newsletter in their mailbox. We can say the following about this:

  • The sending of the newsletter is fully automatic.
  • We don't remove anyone from our file just like that.
  • We never block newsletter sending to individuals.
  • We cannot guarantee that you will receive the newsletter at all times.

The main reason that you no longer receive the newsletter is usually that it spam filter from your email provider de newsletter block. This mainly happens with Hotmail addresses, but it can also occur with other providers. Sometimes the newsletter suddenly ends up in your spam folder, pay attention to this and therefore also check your spam folder.

That's right, the email also ends up in my spam from time to time.
If I indicate that it is not spam, then it goes well for a while, but eventually ends up in spam again.

So, if you miss your mail, check your spam box.

If you have not received a newsletter, take a look in your junk e-mail box, strangely enough, once in a while the newsletter also ends up there. This does not only apply to this one but also to others to which I subscribe, I don't know as a computer illiterate why that is...

A theory: it is possible that the newsletters sometimes 'automatically' end up in the unwanted e-mails (spam) if an e-mail is often enough marked as unwanted by users. If there are 100 people who are fed up with the newsletter and instead of 'unsubscribing' (from the newsletter), choose 'mark as unwanted and delete', then an e-mail platform could see the mail as spam and therefore for be able to label anyone as unwanted.

Isn't a 100% explanation either, because I've been receiving the newsletter on my Hotmail address for months without any problems.

Where I do experience problems is the website itself. It doesn't sync well. For example, I see on the homepage under an article that there are 5 responses, when opening there are fewer. In the menu on the left, under 'latest comments', you will find a series of older comments from a few hours earlier. So I see an older version of the website, with a timestamp older than the last moderation rounds. Sometimes it takes 2-3 hours, sometimes 6 hours for an article to get back in sync. Sometimes an article is even synchronous for 1 hour and then out of sync for a few hours. The homepage itself can also get out of step: it shows that there are 10 responses somewhere, when you open it there are 15. I'm guessing that the website is stored on multiple servers and if you sometimes open an article / page, you server 1, sometimes on server 2. If a server does not show the most recent copy of the website, things go wrong. This is something from the last few months (since summer??). Occurs on laptop, PC, smartphone, with or without private browsing, with or without deleting cookies etc. So it's on the server side and not the reader side.

I receive the newsletter at my gmail address.
Sometimes this is in the box 'primary' and sometimes in the box 'advertising'.
    No idea why.
