Whoever burns his buttocks must sit on the blisters.

Last night RTL 5 showed the 'old' documentary 'Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand' to admire. RTL had brought out this sensational documentary to entertain the viewers.

I had seen the series before on the internet. It's about British people going to Thailand and getting into trouble. The problems are related to drug use, drunkenness, fights, oplichting and more. It was filmed in Pattaya and Phuket, among others. You can also see the volunteers of the tourist police at work.

The documentary creates a rather one-sided picture of touristic Thailand. It's not that hard with some cutting and pasting. The images have to be sensational, everything for the viewing figures.

Remarkable is the jet ski scam in Phuket that is shown in the documentary. This seems to have caused quite a stir in Thailand itself. The governor even stepped in to put an end to the jet ski mafia.

A British girl is caught with drugs during the 'Full Moon Party'. The joint belonged to her boyfriend and she had carried it with her for a while. Well, how often do you have to warn? How naive or stupid can you be? I don't feel sorry for it.

This documentary, in my opinion, could have been filmed anywhere in the world. After all, wherever the British go, there are problems. Yes, I generalize, that's right. But I also really hate those boozy and aggressive Neanderthals. Can't they put a fence around that island with a lot of power on it?

Brits still think the world is theirs. It was once a naval force; the most powerful country in the world. 'England rules the world'; yes once in a gray past. Get them off that island and you're back in time. They behave like hooligans and pirates, drinking and fighting seems to be the life motto of this strange people.

Some time ago I posted a video on this blog of a British being beaten in a bar in Bangkok. He was clearly looking for a fight. However, he had to pay for it with a knockout. (here the video)

Apart from the scams of the jet ski and tuk-tuk mafia in Thailand, most of the problems can be traced back to the behavior of the subjects of the British Kingdom. If you're looking for a fight with a Thai, you've got a problem. When you are drunk and start behaving rudely, you start shouting and swearing, then you cross a border that is rather sensitive for the Thai. You just have to bear the consequences. After all, you are a guest in Thailand. Please behave like a guest.

Many English people – especially the scum that roam around in Pattaya and Phuket – deserve to be treated like this. They are causing problems all over the world. In Mallorca and in Greece they get away with it easily, not in Thailand.

I don't feel sorry for it at all, it's rather som num na.

you can also look at it this way, don't get them drunk, a bar also has a responsibility with serving, it's never enough with the thai, what you drink. And to attack that man from behind in that condition doesn't deserve a hero's award either. I also get annoyed with drunk tourists, but to kick the English in the piss right now is out of place. I also saw a group of sober Indians being beaten in the walking street, they were cowardly attacked from behind. you can argue about brutality, what about the katoeys who work in europe (frankfurt), well that's not an advertisement for the kind.

problems maybe a few left there

Totally agree, you can say a bar also has responsibility !!! Bull shit, you just have to behave when you're a guest somewhere. And not always pointing to someone else like yes but…. etc. It is usually the same characters who have problems in Thailand. If not the English then surely the Norwegians, they can also do something about it.

Peter, is it possible that you report something like this on the blog before the broadcast starts? Now I missed it again. Shame.

    • I had missed it myself, but was made aware of it the next day. I'd seen it before, so it didn't matter. You might find it if you google it.

Did anyone record it by chance?

What struck me in the video is that the police did absolutely nothing to track down the perpetrators who had beaten the drunkard to a pulp. The prohibition of vigilantism also applies in Thailand.

It is not a license to beat up someone who is drunk and in that state causes (serious) nuisance to another. They always beat such a person in groups. I think they're cowards.

It cannot be said enough that you should drink in moderation, especially when you are abroad. You will indeed avoid a lot of trouble.

    • Thais are known to fight viciously. Continue even if you are lying on the floor or already unconscious. That is indeed cowardly. Nevertheless, the limit to use violence is quite large for the average Thai. When they cross that border, all brakes are released. Then you better get out quickly.

Yes, the problem is that weeks later you still run the risk of being hit on the head from behind with a bottle, my advice is avoid problems with a Thai because even if you have the body of a young Arnold Swarzennegger, you always lose. They also always stand up for each other, and with 10 men at the same time, but this won't be new

Well, in Pattaya and Patong you just don't come across the best Brits.

    Khan Peter,

Do you still have that video somewhere of those women kicking that English tourist? I was in a discussion yesterday and I was not believed that such a thing happened in Thailand. But unfortunately I couldn't find the link to the video anymore.

What if a Dutchman is beaten up, who tells a story after being scammed? There are plenty of decent Englishmen.

those are just annoying street kids according to Jetske van Nieuwenhuizen PvDA
I myself was robbed and clubbed by 3 of those boys, and then taken to the hospital, so Geert is now my husband
It is still safer in Thailand , but for how long ???

They are not the best Thais working in Pattaya.
Older men with young Thai women is often a door in their brown eyes. And it is also not easy for these Thais to be submissive and friendly all day long. Now just wait and see when Harold and Martin get hit unnecessarily, then they will squeak differently!

Hello Thailand friends, I saw there was some reaction to the Big Trouble in Thailand Docu.
There is an even better film registration about BKK and Pattaya called Bangkok and Pataya 2007 http://WWW.TF film.com, this is the real thing!! and not the sensational stuff of BTTH
This documentary without commentary but with good old-fashioned disco thumps supported as 'Hot stuf' by Mrs. Summer is it.
This British (how could it be otherwise!!) extremely brutal camera man knows how to make a very good, exciting film without having been hit on the head.
I think the film 3h.30 min can still be downloaded for free somewhere on the net (torrent).
Greetings Thai Piet (Por salla-ee Dordek)
