Since the rabies outbreak, seven Thais have died from the effects of the infection. The latest fatality was a month ago, a man in Phatthalung who was scratched by his dog died of the dangerous disease.

Princess Chulabhorn asks the authorities to make Thailand rabies-free. Nakhon Si Thammarat is one of the provinces with a pilot project for sheltering stray dogs, which she is the initiator of. Meanwhile, 250 dogs have been taken care of in a center at Walailak University, where space is being made for 2.000 dogs.

Villagers in Nakhon Si Thammarat were only interested in having their pets vaccinated against rabies for free because they then receive eggs as a gift.

“Villagers in Nakhon Si Thammarat were only interested in having their pet vaccinated against rabies for free because they then receive eggs as a gift.” An information campaign does not seem like a superfluous luxury to me.
