In Thailand, the worst drought in twenty years continues to spread. There is a lack of water in many areas. So far, 4355 Thai villages have been declared disaster areas. They get help from the government.

More than 40 of the total of 76 provinces are being closely monitored, they run the risk of being completely without water in the future. In many areas, soldiers have to supply drinking water with tankers.

The Mae-Chang water reservoir in northern Thailand has almost completely dried up. Drought resurfaced the ruins of a flooded village in the 1982s. Since the construction of the reservoir in XNUMX, the village, including a temple ruin, has been under water.

The governor of Phayao province is afraid that there will not be enough water in Lake Phayao to irrigate the rice fields before the rainy season starts again. The water in the Thai reservoirs has not been this low since 1994.

In the northern province of Sukhothai, the Yom River has been drying up since January. There will probably be no more water flowing through by the end of this month. Banana farmers in that region have been hit hard by the drought, because many banana trees have died.

Measures in Bangkok

Bangkok Post writes that the municipality of Bangkok has decided to shorten the Songkran celebration. Throwing the water will be limited to three days: April 12-14. In addition, the water throwing must stop at 21.00 p.m. The Songkran holiday this year is spread over five days, April 13-17 (April 16 and 17 fall on a weekend). Water consumption during Songkran is three times higher than usual.

On Khao San Road, the municipality will make it clear to tourists with a campaign that Thailand does not want to waste too much water during this period.

    @,

And what is Pattaya doing about this water waste?
Pick-ups with giga tons in the trunk.
Those blue pipes that are “forbidden”?
3-day institution and those outside that date a generous fine?
Police at those big pipes that come out of the ground to fill the various water trucks??
Thepprasit soi 5 is one of them I thought.
Just those water trucks, who can discuss that they will fill the tank at houses, (like us and several here) give access and refuse the rest?

    What a simple thought huh??

    Dear,
In BKK, throwing water has been shortened from 4 to 3 days.
Can someone tell me if it is also shortened in Pattaya from 10 to 5 days?
Because 10 days is too much for me.
    Best thanks.
    Gino

Well, the past few years the worst flooding / flooding and now the worst drought. I bet that measures will now be discussed (usually short term) and as soon as the first rain falls, the planned measures for April next year will come to nothing. This also applies to flooding in the rainy season (when the rain stops, the flooding problem also stops, so you don't have to do anything. After all, the problem has disappeared by itself).

A structural approach to both aspects? That will (still) not happen in the coming decades. Well old h…. about HSLs and submarines…………………………….

Living here in the north not far from Chiangmai near Pasang , Lamphun province .
    Haven't seen rain in ages.
    Blood hot every day.
The water in the Ping River after the weir at the village of Nong Du , about 4 kilometers from where I live is almost gone .
The temperature measured this afternoon around four o'clock in the shade was 41 degrees Celsius.
The leaves on the trees wither.
How long before we can see real rain again , or do you have to go back to the Netherlands for that ?
I am afraid just like last year , but even worse that this will go badly wrong .
The farmers drive back and forth with pipes and pumps, so that, in my opinion, the groundwater level will also be exhausted.
Outside the house you can hardly do anything after nine o'clock in the morning , much too hot .
Likes to ride a bike , but then very early in the morning .
But the SongKran party has to continue wasting water at all costs.

    Jan Beute.

I wonder what happened to the recommendations of relevant experts who gave their opinion after the heavy floods on how the water management problem should now be tackled. This is something that has priority and those train routes, to name just a few, should be put on hold for a while.
