Reader question: Inguinal hernia surgery in Thailand

Dear readers,

Soon I will leave for Thailand for a month. In the Netherlands I have been on a waiting list for an operation on an inguinal hernia for more than six months. I know that when I report to a hospital in Thailand, I can probably be helped that same day. My health insurance fund has now indicated that the costs of an operation in Thailand will be reimbursed up to an amount that is common in the Netherlands.

Now my question: Can someone give me advice / does anyone have good experiences with a hospital in Bangkok regarding inguinal hernia surgery? Good experiences with regard to the operation itself, of course, but also in terms of price. Bumrungrad hospital is the hospital where I have been a patient for 20 years, but I have 2 problems there: They have become insanely expensive and they don't want to give me a price request in advance.

Please your responses.

Regards,

Rolf

About 5 years ago I had an inguinal hernia operation in the government hospital in Si Racha. 3 days in hospital + 3 months check-up for Baht eleven thousand. I was taken there by my Thai neighbors because I had to keep my hand on the hole because the Sirikit Hospital did not want to operate on me and gave the advice “just look for another hospital”. In the Si Racha Government Hospital the doctor saw me at 10 o'clock in the morning, was in bed at 12 o'clock and at 3 o'clock in the afternoon I was told that I would be operated on at 8 o'clock in the evening. Was over and back in bed by 11pm. I have never had any problems with my groin again. Please note that recently all hospitals in Thailand are allowed to charge double prices for “farangs”. Good luck.

My health insurer reimburses everything in Thailand for the cost price. Do you have an additional module that also offers you that?

My experiences in state hospitals are fine; only outside the big cities you should not count on nursing assistants who speak English; nurses often speak English. Then you have to speak a little Thai yourself.

Go to Thainakarin .Excellent hospital with English speaking translators .I had surgery there and the Doctors in Europe were very impressed afterwards with the excellent treatment

A very good alternative to the Bumrungrad hospital is the Bangkok hospital.
Always go to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital yourself.

Thanks, I already had this in mind!

that is PEPPER and is commonly known in the farang vernacular as
a “falang mafia” hospital with extremely high fees for tourists !
NEVER go to that hospital!!! I myself stay in jomtien but prefer it
Sri Racha Hospital. Always correct and no extreme costs.

It is my experience that all kinds of tests are done in the Bangkok hospital that, in my opinion, have nothing to do with the disease or ailment you come for. It looks like a lot of turnover to be made. Maybe others have that experience too.

I had an inguinal hernia operation here in Chiangrai last January
    at Central Hospital
    with excellent medical care
    total costs(except 2 nights extra in a suite = 2x 3400 baht)
but you can also go to a room or perhaps directly to your home or hotel

    is 15.000 baht

    i have no insurance
    only state pension
    so do your best!
    they speak english,
    very skilled doctors
the kitchen again received an award for the best hospital kitchen in Thailand

I have good experience with Bangkok hospital at least in Udon Thani. My advice is if you have surgery in Thailand, ask what the mat is made of and the batch number. If you run into problems later, you at least have a backup.

As a Dutchman you can also go to Belgium with no waiting times for such a current operation, maybe a few days at the most!
You will certainly not be the first Dutchman, nor the last to make his way to Belgium. found hospitals

I know ! Only in the Netherlands do you have those idiotic waiting times. Thanks for your suggestion

A good friend of mine had surgery on his inguinal hernia two years ago. He did that at Hua Hin hospital and paid extra for preferential treatment. It then cost him 7000 Baht. Cheaper than the own share of his Dutch insurance. The two other hospitals asked for amounts in excess of 100.000 Baht.

I had an inguinal hernia operation in Lampang 2 years ago.
Lampang “Ram” Hospital a private hospital.
Surgery today and going home tomorrow, a week later for a check-up.
Cost 70.000 Thai Baht, reimbursed by my European health insurance.

An acquaintance of mine spent 2 days in BBK HOSP last year and lost Thb 140.000.
Not a problem in itself, the travel insurance and health insurance have reimbursed everything, but I was asked to first contact the health insurance in NL if possible for the next admission, who could then negotiate the price with BKK HOSP.

    Had never heard this before
