Today, the Japanese department store Isetan in Bangkok closes its doors for good after three decades. The department store, which was located in CentralWorld, has many Thai fans and they are very sorry that they can no longer shop there.

Whether Isetan will return to Thailand is currently unclear. The parent company Mitsukoshi Group has not yet released anything about this.

It is also unclear why Isetan decided to end its partnership with CentralWorld. Central Pattana Plc, which manages CentralWorld, has said the 27.000 square foot space spread over six floors currently occupied by Isetan will be renovated and reopened with other stores.

It seems that Central has decided to continue without partners.
In Udon Thani, Robinson will also close on October 1.
Robinson took up at least a third of the space in Central Pattana Udonthani.
By the way, what does that added word Pattana stand for?

    • Peter Sonneveld says up

Pattana (พัฒนา) means to develop. In this case development company.

Central and Robinson are both part of CPN. People no longer want these 2 together in the same mall. For each shopping center, depending on the location, either a Central or a Robinson is chosen.

The Japanese food market and food court will remain in Isetan Bangkok. This department is completely renovated. Come often to eat and drink Japanese specialties.

I mean actually, Isetan's food store remains in Central World, under renovation. And on the other side of Central World, a branch of Don Don Doki, also a Japanese department store, has opened in the shopping center The Market. There is already one in Tong Lo.
