Illegal Russian tour guides on Phuket tackled

Because the local population in Phuket has been resisting for some time about increasing competition from Russian tour guides against the local tour guides and there was no further control, the DSI (Department of Special Investigation) has launched an investigation.

For example, a large-scale survey was held last month in various hotels and places where there was something to see. Seven illegal Russian tour guides were arrested. These people can count on a conviction and then be deported from the country.

In recent months, the number of travel agencies with Russian tour guides has increased sharply, leaving Thai people without work. Even the Thai tour guides lost faith in the local police and therefore turned to the DSI.

The fact that Russian tourists generally do not speak English or Thai and that Thai tour guides do not speak Russian was not taken into account.

That's a good move. Illegal and Russian… it makes sense that you tackle that.

    @,

Very good that this is being addressed.
Takes the bread out of a Thai's mouth.

    But why only this??
Tuk-tuk prices, increase on arrival and then get beaten up if you don't want to pay the extra few hundred??
Lock hotel entrances so hotel cars can't transport guests???

Strange that the police still do nothing about this.

Fine, immediately tackle the (Russian) prostitution on Soi Bangla and we are one step further to prevent Patong from becoming a Russian enclave.

The language problems can be solved by sending a Russian-speaking tour guide and a Thai tour guide. SRC-reizen also does this and sends a Dutch-speaking guide along. But yes, that costs extra money.

Good action I read, fine, tackle the police.... Is there a good reading? It's just a coincidence because it clearly states that the police have been skipped in this one!!! Tackle tuk tuk? Will also first have to skip the local police because they absolutely do not let themselves eat the cheese of the bread!

    This strikes me as a half-easy solution….

Banning foreign (non-Thai) tour guides does not seem wise to me, people often want a guide who speaks to them in their language if possible. If you do not speak Thai or English (well), it is nice if someone from your country of origin can guide you. Mixed Thai-*country of origin* guide couples seems to me an ideal solution. For example, Thais have a job and tourists have a guide who speaks their native language well.

Nothing wrong with Russians, Germans, English, Belgians, Dutch, Chinese, etc. as long as one behaves decently. With duo guidance and an eye on the authorities, one can see that tourists are well helped and the asos are dealt with harshly, because no one wants noisy aso/scum tourists. Conversely, just as well tackle Thai scammers (tuktuk mafia, etc.) so that the decent people of the world remain and everyone can enjoy with a smile.
