The municipality of Bangkok (BMA) will open its own tree nursery at the end of June to care for the thousands of trees that must make way for the construction of new Skytrain lines. The nursery will be located at 85 rai in Nong Chok, a green zone in the northeastern part of the city.

The measure is in response to the many complaints from the residents of Bangkok about the disappearance of the trees. According to the BMA, a total of 3.723 trees will be removed for the construction of five subway lines.

After care in the nursery, they are replanted elsewhere. The municipality has made agreements with the contractors about the removal of trees. They must first ask for permission and also pay a fee.

  1. ruud says up

plant 3.723 trees in a green zone??
And the trees that are already in the green zone are then sold to a sawmill, does that green zone only consist of grass?
On balance, the green/concrete ratio will in any case increase again in favor of concrete and

Bangkok will get a bit warmer and dustier in the sun again.
After all, trees convert sunlight into more tree, and concrete just heats up in the sun and stores a lot of heat, so the temperature drops slowly at night too.
