In this video by our loyal reader Willem Elferink you can see a visit to a Christian village (Catholic) in the far north-west of Thailand, followed by a jungle tour. The guides show us how you can quickly make an accommodation (table, seat, eating utensils and sleeping accommodation) with bamboo and bamboo leaves.

Due to the quarterly trips to Mesai (visa), I often take the opportunity to explore the northern area. A few years ago I traveled with Ruud and driver Tak to Mesai via the northwestern route along the Burmese border. Ruud had made an appointment with an acquaintance who lives in the far northwest in a Christian (Catholic) village to spend the night there and to make a ''jungle tour'' the next day. You will encounter many small settlements along the way. When you stop at one of those villages, children immediately rush over and look at you curiously. Ruud had already brought candy as a precaution and the kids were very happy. In the village we took a walk and we found that the school children had their playtime. Ruud was allowed to hand out some toys from the teacher.

The next day we set out. The escorts had the necessary provisions with them. The first part was an open landscape with some trees, shrubs and mandarin plantations here and there. Then the forest became more and more dense and the cuffes were taken in hand. Finally we reached our destination. The Thais immediately started cutting down the necessary bamboos. Everyone had their own task. After a few hours they had the accommodation ready. A dining table, benches, eating and cooking utensils and the sleeping facilities. The food we brought along was prepared and while enjoying a drink and snack we had a nice evening. The beer was a bit lukewarm, but the schnapps (rice brandy) made up for it. This was a good nightcap, because lying on a hard floor is not easy. The next morning a delicious breakfast and then we returned to our village.

Willem, what a great video and an even better experience. Big experience we would say. Survive in the jungle. Completely without noisy tourists. Very special. Nice music in the video too. Keep it up….

    What a beautiful video
It's not that crazy if you dream of such a country

This is something different from the usual thirteen in a dozen holiday films in Thailand, Willem! More than worth watching.
    Especially the "wood walk".
My (our) only jungle experience is in some national parks in Thailand, Khao Yai, etc., but nothing can beat this.
Been to Mae Hong Son a few times, beautiful nature, but never enough time or opportunity to actually go into the woods with a Thai guide or others.
This video does give an impression of what that could be like, which gives the citizen courage.
Even my (Thai) wife found it interesting, which can be called a miracle, because most of the films made by Farangs in Thailand are of little or no interest to her :)
    Thanks for posting,
    mvg Seven Eleven.
