Part 2 of the BBC's impressive documentary about one of the most notorious prisons in the world: the Bangkwang in Bangkok.

This prison hell is located north of Bangkok in Changwat Nonthaburi, near the Chao Phraya River. In Bangkwang, also known as 'Bangkok Hilton' and 'Big Tiger', there are only prisoners who have been sentenced to a prison sentence of 25 years or more, or to the death penalty. The vast majority of prisoners are serving sentences for drug smuggling or murder, and this population also includes Western prisoners, mostly for drug smuggling.

Conditions in Bangkwang are extremely bad. The prison is overcrowded. The guards are corrupt and overworked. The prisoners sleep in very small rooms where they also have to wash and defecate. The food consists of a kind of soup with the occasional fish head.

Murders are regularly committed by inmates within the prison using smuggled knives and pistols.

Prisoners can only wash in raw water that is pumped up from the river, which can cause them to contract infections and other diseases.
