Mae Kampong, 50 kilometers from Chiang Mai, is an oasis of peace. No screaming neon signs here. On the contrary, electricity is generated by hydropower. Tourists can learn how to pick and ferment tea and get information about the Lanna culture of the village. They can go hiking, climb mountains or cycle, but also spend the night and eat with residents.

Mae Kampong has a rich nature, culture and serene ambiance. The village is able to receive 4.000 travelers per year for the homestay service plus visitors who drop in throughout the year.

Foreign guests are full of praise for Mae Kampong on travel websites such as Tripadvisor.

Mae Kampong has not been a place of rest for many years. Every day this village is flooded with tourists who all want to walk the idyllic village and take pictures of the famous places that are on social media. Because the roads are very narrow and there are hardly any parking spaces, traffic jams regularly.

Peace only returns when the day-trippers have returned home at the beginning of the evening.

It is a nice village but don't expect an oasis of peace.

For peace and quiet you should no longer be in Baan Mae Kampong, the once so quiet idyllic place is overrun by tourists every day.
